Default Starter bracket bolt - thread pitch?

Hi All

Trying to work through broken fixings putting my Euro S2 engine back together....still.

When I removed the starter bracket from the block, one of the M8 x 48 hex head bolts sheared. Tried drilling out etc. but looks like I need to drill oversize and put in an insert - tending towards timesert. Only question is does anyone know the pitch of the bolt, the car is miles away and I couldn't find my pitch gauge today. Better still is the a bolt table with thread pitch anywhere? Item concerned is #33 in PET:

Happy spannering

I happened to have vol 1 of the WSM next to me when I saw your post. Took a look in the bolt torque tables and could not see this bolt specifically mentioned. The 8mm bolts that were listed invariably seem to have a 1mm thread pitch but whether that bolt is an exception to the rule I for one do not know. The 8mm bolts I have checked have also been 1mm pitch or so I seem to remember.

Hopefully someone will chime in with a more definitive answer for you as the evening progresses.

Thanks Fred. I suspect you are right but will hang on for definitive confirmation or try to find/buy a new thread gauge given the cost of timeserts. They are expensive enough to be Porsche manufacturers..

Several annoying little things slowing engine assembly...

Happy Burns night to all and sundry

8 x 1.25mm. (Virtually every 8mm bolt on the car has a 1.25mm pitch.)

A bit of a warning - those bolts (at least on my 87 and up) have shallow heads. Allen head bolts sourced from your local hardware store will be proud and possibly interfere with the flywheel.

This is one of those times the purchase should be from the dealership or one of our vendors.

Hi Kevin, yes I had to drill the heads off those to remove them but the shafts came out easily and I have replacements with the shallow head already. Been so long though I can't remember getting them!
