Our 81's have two smaller pieces of rubber the same shape of this which do what you are saying, but our 86.5 doesnt have a front plate or rubber bumpers.

Its the "little Black Box" when you wreck this car, other Rennlisters can find you. Put it back under the spare tire!

I just hope it is not important because I cannot find it looking at the pictures in the service manuals.

You know, that looks suspicously like the rubber blocks that fit into the holes in the bottom of my ramps to keep them from slipping.

And come to think of it, one of them is missing on one of the ramps. Hmmm...

If you have those low profile ramps you have found your culprit!!! I have those ramps and they fall out all the time. Flip those bad boys over and I'll bet you will find one of them minus a rubber

I have not used the plastic set of ramps we have in a long time but I went outside and checked them anyway. Both had the pieces of rubber... though this mystery piece looks just like the pieces of rubber on the ramps, but seeing as the ramps already have the rubber the question remains unanswered .

Well, like I said, I'm missing one, so I think we have our answer. I'm not quite sure how it made it to your place, but I'm guessing it involved hyperspace or a wormhole or something like that...

Could it be the rubber bumper that the hood corner bumpers rest on top of?

Looks like maybe a hose/ metal line insulator-separator. Maybe an exhaust hanger from somewhere........
