Update on wrong offset Kinesis
I just got off the phone a little while ago with Alan Baylis of Kinesis. He is their Sales Manager who so thoughtfully chimed in on my previous thread to offer his assistance. Very, very nice fellow...
Anyway, Alan looked up the serial numbers for me and as it turns out what I have purchased is a used set of K20s originally built for a C4S with the following specifications:
Fronts = 9" w/51mm offset and Rears = 11" w/38 mm offset
Silly, mathematically challenged me calculated that they were 64mm and 52mm wheels that would fit nicely on my Shark. I simply failed to subtract the inside lip width from my backspace measurement.
In order to make these wheels work they will need to change out both the inner and outer rim halves on the fronts and just the outer rims on the rears. Specifically they can get me to either a 64mm 8.5" or a 73mm 9.5" wheel in front and a 52mm 10" wheel in rear. Cost for this service will be somewhere in the neighborhood of $650.00 not including shipping to and fro... What do you make of this option?
At first glance, considering my investment in purchasing the used wheels, I am getting close enough to the cost of ordering a new set that it may not be worth doing. What do you think these wheels are worth if I decide to resell them?
$%(#*&#%&)!!! I thought I was getting wicked wide, wicked light and wicked cool rims for a bargain! Oh well...
Repeat after me. If the way cool wheels you find online are not made for a 928, they DO NOT really fit. They must be made for a 928. Repeat, repeat....

So $650 for upgrading all 4 wheels?
Or $650 each?
If it's $650 for all 4, that's not bad.
If it's each wheel, yeah, you might be better off selling them to someone who needs that offset, and buy yourself a set of brand new ones...

$650.00 is the total... Seems very reasonable to me, but once done, I still have used centers that could stand to be refinished. I should have asked Alan how much it would be to color match my paint.
And what about those offests/sizes? They are just what Kinesis can come up with out of their used rim bin. Not customized for the 928, but close enough?

Well I know that Wheels with the correct offsets are around 800 a wheel from Those Guys, so I suppose that if your close to that cost now, then it would be better to spend money on a nice new set you have color coded any way you want.
Maybe see what these would get on ebay if sold to the correct bidder. Even better, sell them to a C4S owner over on that board.
On the other hand, those new specs would be great for your car, and the coloring is not that expensive at K, but I am not sure.

Bill, Best of luck with your wheels. May be you can get the wheels disassembled locally, and have the centers addressed. Then send the components to Kinesis for them to do their magic?
To Alan Baylis, all of us here on the rennlist appreciate you chiming in, and offering expert assistance on an issue. We hope to read your opinions in the future.
Cheers to you!

allright, specifically... Which is better in the front if I want to run 255 or even 265s? The 64mm 8.5" or the 73mm 9.5"?
In back to run a 275 or maybe even a 285, is the 52mm 10" a good fit?
If I get Kinesis to work their magic I will be looking at around $2.3k total invested. What other wheels will allow me to go with the steamroller look front and rear for the same $?
Also, are there any Porsche factory caps that fit the K20s. The ones that came with my flat disc wheels do not.

bill,
9.5 with 73 offset will give you more options, especially if you want to run 265s. you might have some rub at end lock, but still unlikely with that setup. 10 with 52 in the rear is fine. i have k28s on one of mine with that same offset and run 285 in the rear.
as far as other wheels in that price range, the forgelines that devek has on their website are 9.5 and 11 for +/- $2300. i have these on my 88 track car and they are great wheels. polished they would look very nice.
$2700 will get you a nice set of fikses in 9 and 10 inch sizes from 928 specialists. i have a set of fm-10s for the track in that size with 928 offsets that look very nice as well (actually they're for sale if anyone is interested.)
later style porsche center caps will fit the kinesis wheels, but the stock center colors of those wheels will not match the center cap color.
