Tickets are only $35 each for a Family of 8 bought in advance online. But all persons on multiple pack tickets must enter the area in one vehicle.
2 pack tickets are only $55 / ticket (which is still not too bad)

Hell, I'll go but just hang out at Docs place and then go 4x4ing all weekend. Big bonfire, beverages and Docs hospitality. Love that area of Co...........actually like everything west of the plains.

I'm reading some of the rules for spectators. I have a massive truck I can haul 8 people, plus food, bev, grill, chairs, canopy, etc. Suggest maybe Cove Creek view area? Has potty, parking, long viewing area. If possible to make use - I have a large raised platform for my truck with a 6x9' deck about 9 feet high. May be smart to get truck in place early, and a later group can come up and meet wherever we get setup. Should provide a good view and photo location. It will be an all day event, once the fans cars are in, they aren't let out until after the race. Just guessing, but the fans going in would need to arrive < 4am to get a good spot, and won't be off the hill until > 5PM, so a full, full day. No trailers allowed.
For those not familiar with weather and altitude here are some hard and fast rules:
1. SUNBLOCK, SPF 30
2. Winter coat, gloves, hat, umbrella
3. Water, at least 1/2 gal per person per day
4. Anti-nausea medication
5. No smoking > 10,000ft
When it gets closer to the race we should coordinate the trip and logistics.
edit to add: Sean, I'm am quite certain there will be no bonfires anywhere around the mtns of CO in June. Quite likely to be a burn ban in effect for the entire month, including camping areas. I will not be having any kind of fire at my place except inside the wood burning furnace, and the grill.

update: I spoke with the folks who are organising the trip from the North side.
given they shall be travelling from this area in Canada I'll post the routes being considered as well as the hotels. It may well be that the closest hotel to the PP event is where we should potential have a group booking given sufficient folks that are interested.
the hotel the local group has is; https://www.wyndhamhotels.com/wyndha...hotel/overview
Doc or others that are more local may have other recommendations.

The folks leaving from the Calgary area will leave one week prior to and return one week after the race, June 22 - July 6. Im not organising that part (local PCA friends are) just putting it out there for info. for folks to consider.

I reckon Pike's Peak hill climb is one of those things worthy of bucket list inclusion. For those who have not seen it just look up Carl's run on youtube. If that does not impress you try "flying the course" in Google Earth's flight simulator- it is mighty impressive. Not sure what is the scariest- below the treeline [where every tree has a name on it] or above the tree line and if you leave the track you end up in Colorado Springs! Takes some seriously large gonads to get on the podium for that event!

Here's one for you guys...
On the first day of practice in 2009, I over-cooked it into one of the 200-degree switchbacks and ran straight on into an Armco rail. We were practicing in "The W's" which is the center section of Pikes Peak.
This video has an excellent audio track.
Enjoy!

guys, want to bring this back up for further chat.
From the feedback theres numerous folks in Tx that have expressed interest (Jim, Sean, Alex etc). We could start a convoy from the Dallas area and head up from there. Google has the trip at +11hrs so we could divide in half with a stop over possibly in Amarillo although I'd ask the Texas folks to advise.
The race is Sunday June 30 so thinking leave Thurs for a Fri early aft arrival, Sat is set up day and time to see the cars/sights etc then Sunday the big race day!
Sound like a plan?

Having done the drive from N TX to Co Springs a billion times, I'll chime in. I don't like stopping half way, but at my age it's not a bad plan.
Leaving from around Roger's house, to the hotel in Springs will be just a bit over 11 hours with three comfort/gas stops. First stop is Childress, TX on 297. Cheap gas, plenty of food, and quick turnaround.
Second stop is Pilot station on loop 335, Amarillo TX. Gas, Subway, pet stop. 335 around to 1061 and through Dalhart.
Third stop junction of 87 and I 25, Raton, NM. Splash of gas, and comfort break. 160 miles to Co Springs from there.
I leave at noon and arrive up in the mtns about 11:30PM, gaining an hour at NM line. Co Springs is 40 min closer. If a stop is desired, I would say Dalhart would be better than Amarillo. The hotels in Amarillo are rather junky, unless it's a +3 star.
