Default Pikes Peak 2019

Our local PCA group is organising a trip to Pikes Peak next year and was curious if there were other 928 folks thinking of visiting the event.

We could turn it into a 928 gathering with the special race event as a huge plus.

Think it would be a very fun time. Wish I had made it up when Carl was running just to see a 928 run the hill. Used to spend several weeks a year in Co and knew the back roads well but the population increase has caused a huge traffic issue unless you head to the middle/west of the state.

Hmmm...tempting road trip! Will have to keep it in mind.

Malcolm, when you have more info about the dates/trip route your local club is planning please pass along!

I want to come back as a tourist and watch it myself. My sons want me to race it again now that the course is all fully paved. IMO, its a natural for a 928. You should go! Its an amazing course and a fun trip.

It's a great event, but I preferred the unique twist the dirt road added. Watching these guys drifting around the hairpins with dust flying everywhere was always heart pumping. I also had a thought about this race the other day and wished I had know Carl was racing. Would have been great to hear that motor screaming up the mountain.

For Tomkat: ...a drift on gravel in the 2007 Pikes Peak Open...

I have a home a few miles from Pikes Peak(Cascade) on hwy 24. I would be interested in offering it for lodging/hosting depending on dates. It's about 1/2 mile on hard pack gravel road, with 3Br/3Ba and 2 car garage, with plenty of driveway parking avail. Fully finished basement and hot tub/wet-bar. Strongly suggest alternate lodging in Woodland Park area over Co Springs offerings. Other fun things to do in the area is a slow drive through Garden Of Gods, rafting the Arkansas river, hiking the Florissant fossil beds, and gambling/nightly shows at Cripple Creek. The area around Pikes Peak has many interesting and cool things to do. For driving pleasure not going up the Peak, the paved road from Florissant to Canon City is one for the adventurous.

A word of caution. Spring weather in that area is very unpredictable. I've been in blizzard conditions in late May with 8" of snow. Next day may be sunny and 75F.

Happy to oblige. The 928 community has been very generous to me. Glad to respond in kind.

According to google maps, I am 23 miles west of the Pikes Peak turn off hwy 24. Takes about 28 min one way.

I see the PP race to the clouds listed for June 30 2019. An excellent time to be in central CO. I'm sure I'll be up there for the whole week from 6/28 - 7/6(4th July holiday).
