Default Derek Bell autographs my 928

Well, actually his 928. Local PCA event (PacNW Chapter) is hosting Derek Bell. I built an homage to his CS, and he signed it for me! Has many fond memories of the car to this day and says he wished he still had it. He said he sold it for 14K £ and it last sold for 240K Euros!

Adam asked (tongue in cheek) if the 928 was faster than his rothmans 962. To which i added, which one was more comfortable?. he said, the 962 on both accounts LOL. custom race seat made for him in the 962!

That's cool Adam. I've not seen you on here in a long time. Great to see a post my friend. :-)

Chris! Awesome to hear from you! I'm still in it, just been taking a little break. Ready to fire up the 928 projects again, it's been too long.

Default My Derek Bell memory

Circa 2002, when Mr. Bell was driving for Champion Audi in the Speed World Challenge, he attended an Audi Club HPDE at Watkins Glen. He brought with him a brand new B6 A4q 3.0 6 speed and was giving folks rides around the track. I was doing a session in my B5 A4q Avant 2.8 5 speed when I noticed him ahead of me on the back straight – It became my mission to catch and pass him. I slowly reeled him in over the course of 2 or so laps and had earned and was expecting a pass signal on the upcoming front straight, when I got his pit-in signal instead. He was going in to pick up another passenger. When I came into the pits after a cool-down lap, he was there in pit lane loading in a new passenger – smoke was still billowing from his A4’s front wheel wells! He was definitely working it hard, as was I, but I had race pads and R compound tires; he probably had the A/C on and was sipping some tea...it was a good race - Nice gentlemen.

Great picture Mark!!! Way cool.

Back when Derek Bell was announcing for the Speed World Challenge Series ( I guess he had stopped racing the Audis in the series.), I emailed him regarding some type of comment that was made regarding your white car, and I think Kibort's car as well. Got a very nice reply back from him regarding his love of the 928. I was surprised that he took the time to reply. Very kind and gracious.

Just after this picture was taken Derek opened the door to the 917 and helped a small kid inside to take his picture. A young employee at the Porsche Experience Center came over and said " excuse me sir but no touching the cars" I pulled the guy aside and said " you do know its his name on the roof and he's the reason that car is here"
