Donna May,

Welcome to the group, this is a fantastic bunch of 928 lovers and one of the best technical support groups in the automobile kingdom.

Please share the story of your car and its unique history of being in the family for all but two of its years. The history of many of our cars is both fascinating and informative as we research their origins and history.

Enjoy!

Dave

Donna, welcome to the Shark Tank. Nice looking OB.

Shawn, the Borlas usually exit out on a side angle not straight rearward, like this; hers looks different. This one is a 79 even though the lights don't look like it.

Looks more like an Ansa exhaust.

The real question is, how does the exhaust sound?

My uncle bought it from a military man that brought it back from Germany with him and that was 1980. He had it until he passed away in 1985, then mu mother had it until she was not able to shift ot anymore without using 2 hands on the shifter. We took it away and when she passed away my brother had it, until this last summer when he decided he didn't want it. He offered it to all us siblings with the instance that if we took it we had to keep it in the family when we did not want it anymore. With the sentimental value of the car I wanted to have it and my brother had not driven it all that much, he really didn't want it. It was parked in his garage for probably 10 yrs. So she is mine now 😁. I will take care of her until I feel that it us time to pass it on.

I kind of like the phone dial wheels... I used to have an '81 931 in exactly that color scheme but I seem to think it was called "root beer" metallic brown? I sincerely hope I'm wrong about that.
It has a dual pipe and somewhere along the line the chrome tips were added.

Gorgeous car. It looks a bit high in the front, but it could be a bit low in the rear, or you simply had the car up in the air and it hasn't settled yet (it takes a while for the front to settle down).

Good on you for posting a pic in the OP. That saves the obsessive among us from doing the usual "This.." thingy. Sort of anyway.
Please post some more pics, interior & engine.

Not sure why you are dreading the clutch job. This car has the easiest clutch job of any I've ever encountered. No need to pull the motor or drop the trans. Just pull the lower bell housing and take the thing out (don't drop it on your head).
Will you be doing it yourself, having someone like a husband or S/O, or paying a shop?

I agree with Scott that it's hard to welcome a woman without appearing sexist in some way. Realities of the world, I guess. Some women work on their own cars, but not a lot.
If you (or someone in your house) turns the wrenches, everything you need to know is on here. Either in the archives or available by simply asking.
If you plan on paying to have the work done, make sure the tech knows the 928 specifically. Many (most?) "Porsche Specialists" or "European Specialists" know little to nothing about them. They have some quirks and peculiarities.
Just dreading the part hunting. Hard to find what you need on a car that is 40 year old. Myself and my husband will be doing the work on it. We are kinda motor heads. I know it is hard to not be sexist.....but it is ok...I have been doing car repairs since i was a teenager.

Would like some int pics, and also engine pics when you have a chance. Usually put your location in your signature block so we know where you are in case you need help. It's a tight community. Read the FAQ for newcomers. There is a ton of good info there all about the 928.

Welcome and think little of the idiosyncrasies of the members. We have nothing but love for each other, you and the cars!
I just did my dual disc four days ago. If you need tips, let me know. I can email you the factory manual pages to help out as well.

Thanks, I have already gotten all the repair manuals on my computer. I knew I would need them. The only place in SD that repairs in my area is a import shop and they do not specialize in Porsche. So I have a feeling I will be becoming very familiar with the car. I have always wanted it even way back when my uncle had it. I guess good things do come to those who wait. She is mine now.

Acutally the part hunting is one of the best parts of owning a 928 because there are great 928 specific vendors that will give you one on one help here. Contact Roger Tyson at 928sRus. He's great to work with. Also 928 International has a lot of hard to find used parts. 928 Specialists also a good source. Seriously don't sweat the parts. Someone will have what you need guaranteed.
