I just bought the car a few days ago. It didn't want to slide at all but I was able to help it along and open it. I then lubed the heck out of the rails and kept working it back and forth. It moves ok now but it doesn't lift up at the end of the cycle. I can reach my hand up in there and manually push it up but it just falls back down again. I'd like to see photos of the steps of removing the headliner. Also, how do you use the manual crank tool? I can do it with the flathead screw portion but it looks like the other side of the tool is for cranking but I can find the slot to use it in. I read the manual but it doesn't show how to do it.

Have you read through the "New Visitor" sticky yet?
All the way through?
On the last page is a link to a google 'way back' (or what ever it's called) that shows Dan the Pod Guy's sunroof writeup.
Follow that and you will be fine.
It's an adjustment issue. No, the headliner doesn't have to come out to fix it.

Thanks for the link. That's exactly what I needed. FYI, several people told me to lube the crap out of the rails and work it back and forth. I'll get it off.

This was a timely feature for me since I have an '82 that was jammed because an attachment block was messed up and causing a jam. Note: Use masking tape to protect the painted roof if it is difficult to turn manually with the OEM crank just to get the inner panel off since the roof needs to be open enough to get the 3 Phillips screw to let it down and remove.

I think I have bigger problems now. The transmission is leaking fluid so I took it down to a local transmission shop and they want $2400 to pull it, re-seal it, and re-install it. That's not in the budget!

Ya, several people dont know how it works either...the "lube is dry, add more lube"

Lube attract dirt, which grinds the nylon pads its is suppose to slide on dry...realllly nice...and then the NEW lube dries out, and make things worse than it was before later on as well.
CLean as best what you can, the guide tubes for the drive cables can be full of crap..clean clean clean.
Every now and then, more grease shows up that you cant filly remove, and I clean the area up with alcohol..to keep it clean dry and dirt free.
