Wrecked 89 S-4 (Parts available)
#48
I got cut off in a very (very) sharp turn over corrected to avoid... spun the front end into the center concrete divider that was sits about 2 feet off the road where the turn is....
The really bad thing is... not one person stopped to see if I was OK...
well one of my Marines going the same way to work saw me walking down the road toward a phone.... thank God.
Back to my crying now... thanks :-)

Chris,
Please don't take this the wrong way, I don't wish to be mean or insensitive to the loss of you car, but I have two comments.
I personally had some initial interest in a couple of the items from your car, however upon reading that you had planned to create a rennlist private auction for these parts really turned me off. Here on the list there is a tremendous wealth of knowledge, experience, advice (good and bad), humor, and camaraderie. Because of this, a lot of us pay an annual membership fee. I certainly do, and feel good about it. But I would not if there were many private auctions like yours. If you don't want to offer some of these parts to fellow renlisters at a fixed listed price, than this is an ebay matter. Ebay will charge you a small percentage for listing the parts. Here on the rennlist there is no charge, but seeing as though us members and the sponsors are keeping the site up, I guess it can be said that we are paying for your auction.
Here is a quote from Randy V:
My second comment is that some of your asking prices are, IMHO, very high. A few of your used parts are priced higher than the big three are asking. I think there would be more interest if they were more in line with what they are going for on ebay, or at least at some dismantlers. An indication of this might be that when I add up the minimum price for all your items on the car (a car that the insurance has paid you out what you originally paid for the car) it totals $13 602. I can easily find a running S4 for that amount. I doubt that Mark Anderson is offering half that for your car.
As I wrote above Chris, I really don't intend to offend you. In fact I hope you get another really nice 928 soon. This is just my personal opinion, and I felt that I would express it.
Mike

If you want to post 928-related items for sale here, please include a detailed description and the asking price.
Any 'For Sale' posts with no asking price or "Best Offer", "Make an Offer", "Highest Offer over $xx", "Email for Details and Price", etc. will be removed.

Actually, I appreciate that you use Rennlist first and don't put it on Ebay. That way we get first shot at the goodies when an entire car is offered for parts. In the larger forum of Ebay, we may have to bid with the idiots who often take it to an excessive value. Another value of Rennlist membership.
Pay up all you "user" cheapskates!!!!!
Best Regards,
JE

I have put in some bids and have not gotten any response for two days now. I am beginning to think that you are really trying a little too hard to maximise on your profits.
I hereby retract all my bids.

Sab.

I haven't gotten any replies either. Part isn't listed with the big three, or available (radios generally aren't). I'm wondering myself.

Mike I agree with you 101%. If CMW wants to MAKE a PROFIT off fellow rennlisters I would rather spend my money with the guys that support the rennlist web site big three. If CMW feels that he needs to get bids on his parts then go to ebay.

It would be a stretch to say he is trying maximize his profits considering the high end merchandise he is selling. A lot of the stuff is aftermarket goodies, and that is what generates interest. I'm sure he spent ALOT of money to purchase them new, and he is extending said parts to us at a "discount". Mind you, not the kind of discounts I would prefer, so I am not bidding.
When a bunch of sharks gather round to munch on the goodies, naturally the market prices increase. Shhh, keep quiet and you might get a better deal. Not.

Chris,
I'm pleased that you have tried to offer your parts here on the Rennlist prior to considering eBay. eBay is not a good solution to this problem as some fool will jack up the price on everything beyond what it could be obtained for from the big 3. I only wish there was some systematic method for determining who gets what. I think the most fair method is first-come-first-serve. Members make offers and you decide how much you'll take for a part and who it will go to. I do not think it is feasible for you to list every part folks will want with a price. That would be a significant amount of work for you.
Surely there are members and users here who have parted out Sharks (and other cars) before. What system(s) did you use for ridding yourself of the parts and putting them into the hands of those enthusiasts who need them? Inquiring minds want to know...I'm sure Chris does.
Meanwhile, Chris...I've sent in several bids to you for my parts "needs."
Best of luck and keep us informed on how you are going to proceed in parting out your '89 Shark.

I have listed parts for sale many times before. What I do is this:
I put up all my parts for sale on yahoo photos, and list them with predetermined prices. This price is usually based 50% off 928intl's used prices. If the condition is less then average, I discount further. If condition is above average or the part is rare, the price will rise (but still reasonable I believe). If a buyer places an order for multiple parts, I discount another 10%.
I also list on renn classifieds, w/ prices listed, but negotiable.
My intent is two-fold. First to make it worth my time to sell/package/ship, make some cash. Second, to recycle our wonderful 928, and sell reasonably priced parts to the people who need them; to give said people an alternative way to keep their car on road.
Okay, my yahoo photo isn't completely ready as I don't have the prices listed yet. You are all more than welcome to take a look-see. I'll be ready to go within the week and at that time will post my own thread.
Link to my 928 parts
I have a feeling CMW may have alot going on. It's alot of work to answer questions/take orders/orginize payment/packaging and shipping.

Gentleman,
I spent two days making a good spreadsheet in order to track who wants what... as I suspected very few people put there money where there mouth is...
I got a lot of interest and a very few bids... so there is no price gouging as some wild imaginations are suggesting.
Look I am a 17 year Officer with the Marines I am working 12-14 hours a day operating the largest recruiting station in the country... and I consider my HONOR and INTEGRITY above reproach... because it is tested every day... IS YOURS....
The reason replies have stopped is because I am really wondering if in my attempt to make things fair and equitable to those interested I have created a monster...
The funny thing if this car was already at 928 intl or some where else... what would you be paying???
I just don't get it...
Still considering what I want to do with the car now... hence no replies...

To all the whiners, STFU! This is America, dammit! Free enterprise is at the core of our system(not that our system is perfect, but still...) Chris has every right to dispose of his car/parts in whatever manner he sees fit. If you don't like it don't participate.
