Lizard shifter or 928 Motorsports shifter kit?
Good morning gentlemen, hope eveyrone has had a good summer.
This is for the ‘84 5 speed with the S4 engine. My recommendations on which kit? Not going to be a race car, already have Carl’s updated rear coupler installed (thanks Carl).

No comparison. My cars will have the Hans shifter or remain stock. There is no in-between.
I have one of the Hans shifters ready to go into my 79 once I get around to that project.
Hans is also working on an upgraded rear coupler I'm anxiously anticipating.

These can be installed without dropping the torque tube (generation 1 may not be as easy). I watched someone do so at SITM a few months ago.

I have Carl's front and rear coupler installed, along with the shifter. Very happy with this setup.

My ONLY complaint about Han's shifter is that there are a lot of parts....and more parts always means more places for things to come loose, wear, and break. I'd have to think really hard about running one of these in any kind of a race car (race cars need to be as simple as possible to endure), but for a street car, where rattles and pieces coming loose can be maintained, I'm not sure it can get much better than this shifter.
The really good news about Han's shifter is that it still mounts to the torque tube (unlike some of the other options), which means that it it able to move back and forth when the transmission moves back and forth, which eliminates the inevitable wear that will occur on the forks and sliders inside the transmission, when a shifter is mounted to the chassis and the engine and transmission are mounted in rubber. (Mobile lathe.) This really becomes an issue, when the stock fore and aft "slop" is eliminated on the rear shift coupler!
Remember....you've got to be 5% smarter than what you are working on to be able to think about all the ramifications of changes.

Let us know how you go, I have the Lizard Shifter and while I love it, the fact that its hard mounted causes me longevity concerns and it does buzz at certain RPMs so I am thinking about switching it out.

I have a Hans shifter which I haven't installed yet, beautiful piece!
And, it's not installed because I have Carl's front ball-cup installed in my racecar, and at this point, I feel no need to replace it since it works so well.

On the flip side last week I removed the shift lever from a GT so as to be able to R&R the front ball cup.
The stock unit isn’t shy of parts either. And getting the two springs in is a lot of fun...
As for racing: it’s a crucible. I’m sure Hans would incorporate product improvements from observations produced in the crucible.
