Since I acquired my current 928 GTS I have had a trim piece missing on the driver's side underneath the dash and next to the outer wall. The result is that there is a stash of exposed wiring that looks awful but not really doing any harm. The attached pic shows the wiring and represents the view from the floor pan looking upwards.
I have a copy of PET but have not been able to identify the component.
Hard to say from the picture. it may be better to take one from slightly further away so the area can be better determined, but my first guess is PET illustration 809-00 item 20 PN 928 552 131 00. knee protector.
I think the angle is messing with us, Fred, can you take some pics more like eye level and in between what you posted?
Thanks,
Dave

The car is a LHD 93 GTS. . The picture is taken with my mobile phone on the floor looking upwards and that is a wide angle configuration.
The knee bolster is a much bigger item that is about 15 inches wide and its centre line aligns with the steering wheel and sits under the panel console if I have the right part in mind..
The exposed wiring is probably about 3 inches x 4 inches adjacent to the A pillar wall. Looks as though there should be a plastic trim piece to encapsulate the exposed wiring
This is a left-field guess but I wonder if your left door harness is just misrouted and is hanging out from under the dash (?) Here's a lousy pic of its routing from a '91- note the absence of any connector as the harness runs into the door tube.
Or it's part of the RDK computer connector, or seat memory/mirror controller harness, or ??? Tough to tell from the pic.
It has been a while since I have had that view, but something doesn't look right with the wiring.
Don't know about Rob, but I could use a wider front of seat base angle shot to get a better understanding.
Cheers,
Dave
Dave,
Let me see what I can concoct photo wise tomorrow your time [later today my time!]. Short of removing the seat it seems difficult to get a meaningful pic but then I am a talented photographer and might have to use a real camera and lens!

Rob,
I am not at all sure what the spaghetti is- it probably feeds into the door harness but I will take a look and see if I can work out what it is. I hate dicking around with anything electrical yet alone the wiring on this thing!
Thanks Fred, that helps with a better perspective, at least for me. It looks like part of the issue is the door harness is not rigged/routed properly. Partially to blame is whatever aftermarket wiring mods is happening there. Plus that other wiring harness looks to be also routed incorrectly, or loose, hard to tell for sure. But I am pretty sure it is not a "trim issue".
Oh, the part# for the new door harness trim part that is broken is 928.555.263.03 price is around $3.

What you see was present when I acquired the vehicle. I had to do some r/r on the door cards previously and one of these days I will pull them once more and install some new clips. Not sure how difficult it is to get those harness elements out of the way and thread through a new trim piece. It would not surprise me if there is a loom routing issue but for the life in me I cannot see how to improve such. The car was previously owned by the owner of the local franchise and It was obvious that the door card had been off previously but not put back particularly well with quite a few faults. I last went in a couple of years ago to get the winder mechanism working [the gear in the motor assembly had stripped a tooth].
I have no idea if it is typical but I get the impression that the GTS was not put together as well as my late 90S4. I still lament that loss albeit the motor lives on in my current 928. Of course the GTS is now much older than my S4 ever lived to see. The S4 expired when it was about 15 years old- the gTS is now over 25 years old- but still running strong- in no small way due to the help from this list.
Below is a picture of this area from the '94 that's in my shop right now. I have little idea what the spaghetti on Fred's is. With my eyes on it, I might be able to opine further. Worst case, I would proceed with identification by correlating wire colors on one or both sides of the connector with the wiring diagrams. It does look disturbingly like the connector pictured in RE's post has been relocated for 'easy access.'
