ha! That’s my old install! It was a great head unit but the touch screen was too much to deal with while driving. I went for big easy buttons and a volume ****.

I went with a Blaupunkt CD43 plus Bluetooth interface.

Model year of the OP's car?

That equalizer is hilarious. Is that an 8 track tape player?

Always love seeing that radio Alan. Can you still get map updates for it?

I haven't updated it in a while - but I believe so.

That looks really good, and in a way demonstrates how a 40-year old design can still look up to date. I’d easily go this way, but my 928 is still so original that I’d hate to change it too much. Maybe there’s a second one in my future where I can really go wild.

That does look pretty good. Black buttons would be a bonus.

That looks great, suits the car really well.

It’s a 1985. Yeah, that equalizer is a real conversation starter. The face of the stereo flips open for a regular tape deck (see lower left part of the picture below). It also turns out that the first CD player for car stereos was part of this Pioneer range.

I just finished test fitting the $49/amazon stereo (note folded paper inserted for alignment).
I have to say, I'm actually quite impressed. The pic doesn't show how well it fits. It looks like it was made to fit the dimensions, corner radius, etc. And it has old school looking buttons. I haven't hooked up the back up camera, but I've tinkered with the unit a bit and I can't find fault....

Default CACA in the car

It looks pretty attractive but do I really want $49.99 of CACA in my Porsche? How can they sell all of that for $49.99? Amazon takes 15% commission plus there is the FBA (fulfilled by Amazon) charges which is about another 15%. So right off the top the CACA people are getting about $35 for their product. The Chinese government must be subsidizing them in order to keep the factories going.

Perhaps, but there's really just not a lot going on inside there. That thing has less brains than your dishwasher. I have several 'digital only' units and they weigh nothing: They're just a box of thin metal with a plastic face plate and a set of chips on a small circuit board.
