I'll second the razor approach. I was shown that technique by my mechanic when I did my first t-belt and waterpump job. It really works!

Thanks for all your encouragement to continue, but life's too short... I've been walking and using public transport for over two months now. I'm going to put it back together as is - unless someone tells me it will blow up if I do.

Cheers guys!

This is how mine ended up. I havent done the heads yet...this is the block. I used of all things...dont cringe!!!......a dremel!! I found a wide disc/pad that was basically plastic/fiber. It actually wore away pretty quick. I started on a non critical looking area...farthest out on the block from the cylinders and to my amazement it was like a pencil eraser removing the material!! All that brown, caked on goop, Krap..is gone! I used a high speed and a very soft ...steady touch. As you can see i managed to remove ALL of the gasket material and whatever that stuff is baked on there YET , when you hold it at the correct angle in the light( i tried to capture that below), I still have the factory surface on the block...looks like a crosshatched pattern or something. It took some time..but im VERY happy with the results.!

If you pushed hard enough you could change the surface or perhaps even put a "grinding divot" in it..but i didnt even come close to using that much pressure.

worked like a charm! thought id pass it along. Perhaps you havent got yours back together yet UKkid??

Ill post the dremel part number and pic soon

Wow

Not sure about the technique or it's effect on the block but it seems to look OK, but what photos - Esoteric or what.

Regards

Jon

Please tell mw what camera you have that those close-ups work so damn well? Please?

Are you really getting that close to slapping everything back together?

Its an "OLYMPUS D-510 ZOOM" .... "2.1 MEGAPIXEL DIGITAL CAMERA"..

as writen on the camera itself. I used the HQ setting, that only gets me 15 pics instead of 80 on my chip...and i used the MACRO setting for the close up. If i get too close it will blur. Im at the limit in those shots. Looks cool though huh!

Pistons are done! dropped them Monday AM...got the call this evening!
Time to order the rings..bearings..gaskets etc..
Yup, getting close.
He!!, i cant take it apart anymore than i have so i have to start putting it back together sometime. I still have LOTS of work to do..life to juggle. No completion time set....when its done, its done. When it starts, it starts. If it starts.
This is fun..therapy! not a job obligation or a contest..just a personal goal for me to try to do something like this.

So Cut pistons, stock rods, and your adding a suprcharger? Or was this the stroker motor?

How much boost did you plan on running?
