If you don't want to send it to Madera and you are going to get rid of it, I will buy all the pieces from you as a set. Please PM if you decide to do so. THough if you're not a member, you may not be able to PM, so my e-mail is roberte01 at gmail.com

I would just sand it down with 220 grit them smooth out with 400 grit, then couple coats of your favorite satin sheen tung oil and it will look good as new..... then wet sand sequentially from 800 up to 2000 grit in 3 or 4 steps....should be perfect then.....

The hassle is that the finish is polyester over a very thin and very fragile walnut veneer, it cannot be removed by sanding without destroying the veneer. I don't know how Madera stripped the polyester finish on the set I sent them but they did an outstanding job.

Good question, this set is only 3 years old and Mark Anderson no longer owns the car- it's in Connecticut now, I suspect under cover in storage most of the time. I can imagine how heat and high humidity would be tough on it. You should send it to me, I'll keep it dry here.

It's thin walnut veneer most likely bound under vacuum to a plywood substrate.

There are many people that specialize in this type of repair if the original veneer is not salvageable.

They will just bond new veneer to the plywood and then coat and polish it to make it essentially a new piece.

I had a dark walnut wood trim kit made for my Cayenne Turbo S and it turned out beautifully. I'm not sure if the guys would also do a refurb of an existing kit or only make and sell new ones, if you want to inquire as to whether this is something they could do, send a message to John at one of these e-mail addresses (welhampetra@aol.com or lotecgb@aol.com) using Pete's Cayenne kit as a reference. They did everything that's wood except the steering wheel. Sorry some of the photos are a little dark because of the window tint but you could probably download them and enhance the lighting to brighten them up.

Thanks. My car actually came with the CF interior package, whIch I loved as it's a more sporty feel, but my wife prefers the warmness and luxury of wood trim. Since I did quite a few intake and exhaust mods to the car along with a widebody kit, I conceded on the interior and changed out the CF trim to her preference, as this is primarily our family trip car so she's in it most of the time when I am. You know how the saying goes - happy wife...happy life. Project build thread is here - https://rennlist.com/forums/cayenne-...s-project.html

Just send it to British Autowood in Orlando, I feel confident they will take care of the refinish for you and do it right.
