Default Projekt 928 and other Books

It is out of print, no chance of coming back anytime soon unless the new V8 is indeed monikered 928 .... and I just bought Excellence Was Expected brand new, in print, for 200 bucks (give or take for tax and shipping). I realise EWE is 1500 pages and P928 is only 160, but I'm comfortable that P928 is a far rarer, and (to me) far more collectible book. I'm also very happy with Paul Champagne's cool case. Every time I read P928, I get something new about the car.

My must-haves:
Porsche Story
Porsche 911 Story
Projekt 928
Excellence Was Expected
Porsche Performance Driving Handbook
928 Performance Portfolio
928 Takes on the Competition

Has anyone read PORSCHE 928 COMPLETE STORY? Can't find much info on this 2002 book.

Heinrich,
Thanks for your thoughts / recommendations on Porshce-related books. I'm still searching for an "affordable" copy of Project 928 (English language version). I hear stories about copies selling for around $100 or less but they are few and far between. More likely are the $150-200+ range in my most recent searches (English or German version).
Cheers,
TUK

Tim if you can find a copy just get it. They are few and far between and I can tell you I have never seen one under 150, and in the past year not below 200. Yes people always tell you they found one at a Hindu bookstore under the Agriculture section, or one was found under some rat feces in a recently-demolished government building .... but I have yet to see it.

Heinrich,
Your advice will be heeded! I have a birthday coming up...will make sure my Porsche-owning-friendly spouse has a link or two to available copies in her Inbox.
Best,
TUK / Tim

URL for one such example currently on eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...gory=1132&rd=1
Current bid is $177+ (reserve met)...

Update as of 1/7/04...the eBay copy above sold for just over $300.
IMHO, this seems on the high side based on my research searches but perhaps I'm missing something...

Anyone else here have a bid on it? I have heard, the book really isn't that good! So please, no one else bid on it. OK!

Someone really should scan this to pdf. I think publisher is still around. If they are stupid enough not to print it again they deserve it. Big 3 alone could probably sell 1000 books at $50 a piece.

928 Performance Portfolio
928 Takes on the Competition
Would add Road and Track Porsche 928 Portfolio 1977-1994 also.

Has anyone read PORSCHE 928 COMPLETE STORY? Can't find much info on this 2002 book.
Totally new to me and I thought I knew them all. Oddly publisher don't list it and Amazon.co.uk shows publishing date of 31 December 2004 yet give it 4 to 6 weeks delivery time. Year is maybe mistake but why is it so hard to find if it's only year old?

While on subject of books. Jörg Austen book about 928 development should come out this month according to this site. Should be very interesting. He was showing some cover designs in 2002 Euro 928 meeting. Hope they translate it to English.

What we as a group should do is pressure Motorbooks International to make Original 928 book. Their Original format is great. Reason why they haven't done one already must be that they think there's not large enough market for it. We should prove them there is. Although they have had some problems geting other new Original series books out lately. Don't know why.

Regards,

Erkka

Is Jorg's book about all transaxle models? Titled 924-944-968 ... should even so still be a good read.
