I was meaning to start the engine then measure the low side pressure, assuming the LP switch engages OK. Then I will attach the refill cylinder and attempt to fill to 15psi low side.
I will weigh the bottle before and after.
Thanks to all for their help !

15psi operating low side seems low. Here is my cheat sheet i keep on my phone when i help friends refill without an evacuation. 15psi sounds like a colder temperature, but actually carries away less heat, not enough superheat working thru the evaporator.

Thanks for that, I'll make a copy. I was going by the graphs in the WSM for the GTS with R134a, which gives a window at 20degC of 0.6Bar (8.9psi ) to 1.2Bar 18psi or thereabouts,

I tried a top up fill today, it seemed to take it's time taking up the charge. I was moving the can side to side as per instructions. In the end I put in 300 gram.

The low side gauge in fact measured about 25psi, from start to finish, except to start with the reading cycled between about 15 and 28 psi. After topping up it was steady at 25psi.

I will get a pair of gauges for next time so I can measure high side as well.

John,

You cannot read too much into the suction pressure unless you run the motor at about 2k rpm and spray the garden hose lightly over the front of the condenser to help it work [that or chuck a bucket of water over it]. It is a bit tricky single handed. Is the system working now?

A/c systems do not like it when there is little to no airflow over them- especially where I am! I am thinking of fitting an auxiliary pusher fan in front of the condenser for hot season use.

Ya, thats closer, but 15 will have a high humidity system in ice protection a lot..yes, its very cold, if you can get good matching high side for it..its all about a differential pressure, and a drop to pull out heat.
