On the 79 I just bought, the wheels seem a bit odd. There are 225/50/16's all around, on polished phone dials. The fronts rub on the sway bar and suspension when turning, and the rears seem like they are set too far into the car (see pic).
I searched around and found that the width and offset was supposed to be stamped/cast into the wheel by the valve stem, but if so, they were removed in the polishing.
Are there multiple offsets available for these 16" Phone Dials? I will take the wheels off and measure them myself, but it is about 15 degrees and snowing right now, so it will have to wait.
Any comments?
thanks
Brian
Also, when viewing the forum, it says my "HTML Code is OFF" in my prefs, which makes all the "smilies" not work. How do I turn it on?

Brian,
According to the 928 Specialists web site, the only offset for the 928 phone dials was 65mm. Evidently, the early 944's used 23.3mm but those would stick out rather than in so you probably have the correct wheels.
Usually the offset is stamped/cast on the back side of the wheel so you'll have to take them off to comfirm.
My forum rules show that HTML code is off but smiles work fine. Sounds like you've got some other problem.

Are the tires the correct size?
At least in the picture, they look a bit wide. Like alought wide on the frount. I'm not sure if it's just my eyes, or if it's really too wide.
