High HC in smog, but still passed

Consider that the car running lean will offer great CO numbers and risk higher HC on lean misfire. That will show up in the wideband oxy sensor; don't rely on the post-cat reading from the smog station to judge the CO numbers. That lean issue explains the flat midrange performance you report.

It is likely that Porken's S300 EZK chip by itself may cause the car to run too lean. This is why he recommends colder plugs and the LH S300 with 24lb injectors. I have both sitting in the garage. Will put them in the week after SATP along with the new caps and rotors. I was running the EZK only for a while since I never got around to putting the injectors in with the LH chip. It ran great so far, but I feel like this flat spot is familiar territory and have had it before.

Decided on replacing the caps and rotors first before swapping the LH chip and injectors over to the new Porken setup. Car has a glass smooth idle to the point I could probably balance a nickel on the intake like I see people do in YouTube videos with Mercedes M120 engines. I haven't had the chance to do a shakedown yet, but do have some findings.
Passenger side rotor and cap appear to have some very unusual wear. It almost looks like the rotor was grinding the contacts inside the cap. The scoring on the contacts in the cap can catch your finger nail. The driver side has no such issue.
Also want to add that some how the throttle cable going to the firewall self-tightened itself and the TPS wasn't contacting the idle switch. WOT switch was no problem. I added some slack in order to get the butterfly to close properly with that nice click we all hope to hear. Probably why it idles better too now.

After finally getting the chance to do a morning drive, the new distributor caps and ignition rotors solved the lean misfire issue.
Happily cruising this morning with a glass smooth idle and effortless acceleration at WOT.

Holy crap .
Where were you going man?! I thought you had a white one? Clearly I haven't read your signature line lately to stay up to date on your garage. I get my coffee in Novato before driving around Stafford Lake and Nicasio.
