Default Concours

Displayed the 928 at the "Wheels & Keels" Antique & Exotic Car & Boat Show at the Moorings Yacht & Country Club on Saturday. There were classic vintage antique automobiles mixed with German, British, and Italian imports, along with several exotic sports cars, and modified American muscle cars. The event also included vintage water craft of various makes and an “in-water” boat show. Brian Redman was the honored guest and on hand to present awards during the closing ceremonies.

The 928 drew a lot of attention from the attendees and the judges and was rewarded with the "Best-in-Class" Award. It was unexpected surprise, but a good one!

There is definitely increased interest in 928 series cars, with lots of positive comments about them, and several people asking advice about where to find good ones to buy.

Attached are a few photos. If you wish to see more photos of the cars at the show, here is a link: https://photos.app.goo.gl/7YrSPpCZkDNa5GOL2

Thanks for all the comments guys! Just wanted the car to show well and didn't expect to win anything. The car is not a "show car." It's clean, with original paint, mileage, etc. Over the years, thanks to the people on this list and the 928 Owners Club, it's been updated and maintained one item-at-a-time, and kept as nice as possible. It's been a twenty year journey for me and a good one.

Near the end of the event after judging and just before the awards ceremony, several event officials and Brian Redman gathered around the 928 and began looking at it very, very closely. That's when I started to get nervous. The make-up of the show varies from year to year, with a wide mix of cars, and you never know what the competition will be.

The class structure was as follows: All cars 2007 and newer, All cars 1988 - 2006, "Other" Imports pre-1988, British Sports pre-1988, German Sports pre-1988, Italian Sports pre-1988, American Sports pre-1988, General Motors pre-1988, Chrysler pre-1988, Ford Motor pre-1988, and "Out-of-Production," plus three boat classes. So, you never know for sure who or what you are going matched against until you get there. There were two awards for each class: 1st place with "Best-in-Class," and second place with "Excellence-in-Class."

The best sounding exhausts were on the VRaptor and the 2008 Alpha Romeo 8C Competizione. The exhaust on the Raptor was thunderous and shook the ground and everything around it anytime it was running. I was in line behind it as we approached the red carpet for the awards presentation and it was deafening! The Alpha exhaust had a perfect deep growl similar to what you hear on modern Maserati's, but better sounding to my ears. Not really surprising since it uses a modified Maserati power train and the Ferrari/Maserati derived V8, assembled by Ferrari. It was a neat car.

The "Dodge by Petty" received an award, the VRaptor received an award, and the Ferrari Daytona received an award. I couldn't take photos of the award presentations since we were required to be in our cars as we drove onto the red carpet to the viewing stand.

It was a good day for 928's and the 928 community. How many times do we ever have the chance to drive our 928's past a reviewing stand filled with folks waving and clapping as the car goes by. Not many. That's what made it so special.

Thanks for all the help over the years. The 928 community is second to none!

Just adding to this old thread. Took the 928 to the SPC Region PCA Oktoberfest Concours, BBQ & Swap Meet this past weekend in Cocoa, FL. The day started with a steady drizzle and windy conditions, but sunny skies prevailed by mid-morning and lasted throughout the day. The turn-out was smaller than in past years due to the early rainy conditions, but still a good representation of Porsche models were on hand, plus a few surprises. Even among some of the higher quality cars on display, the 928 received a lot of attention from the attendees, and from the judges too. At the end, it went home with the "Best-in-Class" and "Best-in-Show" Awards, which was totally unexpected. I thought perhaps second-in-class was a possibility, but anything else was out of reach. It's not a dedicated show car. I just maintain the heck out it and try to preserve it by doing one or two things a year, over the last twenty-three years, to keep it looking and driving as it should. Fielded a lot of questions about 928's from the other P-car owners. Maybe it's the Risky Business thing or maybe it's something else, but more people are paying attention to them these days that ever before. Here are a few photos:

Nice win! I live in Viera and was planning on checking out the show and Oktoberfest but ended up in the GA Mountains instead.... not in my 928. I was wondering who owned that awesome 928 that I saw in the event pictures... now I know! Way to represent the #928

Hi David,

Fantastic outcome and congratulations!

Having seen this beauty in person, it isn't really such a surprise though.

Thank you for representing the 928 community so well.

Have fun,
Constantine
