Stuck Oil Line Fitting at Block 86.5

Default Stuck Oil Line Fitting at Block 86.5

While doing the TB/WP, I noticed the oil lines seeping a bit from the top of the radiator side connections so thought now is the time to replace them since the alternator and PS pump are off. I made sure to heat first and PB blasted yesterday but both block side fittings broke free. I ended up cutting the lines and then just spinning them off. But the top fitting now only backs out a few threads and then just spins - I can tighten it. put the part that fits into the block in a vice,
then get your mapp gas torch out heat the B nut ,
then use the 32MM wrench to remove the nut

I applied pressure to the fitting and managed to get it off the block but not without damaging the blocks threads. On the vice, I had to heat the fitting allot and then use a breaker bar before she would release.

OK your going to have to JB weld the fitting into the block ,
when you do this make sure to clean all the surfaces a few times with acetone .

NOTE dont put much epoxy weld into the block hole a lite coat to wet the surface use a Q tip,
use the epoxy on the on the fitting threads so it wont push a blob of epoxy into the block when its installed,
Also fit a new sealing washer to the fitting before installation.
Counter hold the fitting when installing the new line,
NOTE use anti seize on the back of the flair bubble where the the B nut seats and the threads

Thanks Stan (PM sent with more detail). Cleaned it last night with mineral spirits and hand screwed the fitting to test fit. It tightens but not sure how strong it would be without JB weld and I'm sure it would leak.

Use the original/standard JB weld or a different formulation ?

What other choices of JB weld are you considering?
I was thinking of the the regular JB weld.
Use acetone to clean the parts this will remove the oil ,
and it has to be done a few times

Marlin - Is acetone different than mineral spirits ? I thought they were basically the same. I've been cleaning and using a pick wrapped in cotton soaked spirits to trace the threads as best I can.
When I was researching JB I came across this youtube test that found that Loctite held longer than others - not sure that means much but raised the question if I should consider something other than JB. Unless you and other experts direct otherwise, I'll use the standard JB but here's the link. Hoping to do this tomorrow night as I'll be traveling for 2 days and can leave it to set undisturbed.

NOTE after further research this Hysol is not a good epoxy to use for this application,
it will not provide a high enough operating temperature only good to 250F .
The JB weld goes to 500F.


When i worked in the Aerospace industry we used lots of different Hysol adhesives,
we were bonding beryllium tubes to Titanium fittings for Satellite structures

NOTE I have fixed more than a few blocks with this issue of loose oil fittings using the JB weld and it works well for this application
