Broken cable
The cable from the gas pedal to the intake linkage broke. Will the broken cable keep the car starting and idling?
Thanks

No officer, I haven't a clue how the throttle cable was repeatedly stretched until it broke.
Replacement isn't too tough.

The throttle cable on the Stepson got frayed inside. I drove it to work one day with no problem, but on the way home, I got to within two miles of the house and it stuck wide open at a traffic light. I stomped the pedal so hard to disengage it that it snapped the cable. That solved the wide open issue, but now I had to figure out how to get it home. I figured it would be mostly drivable(?) with the throttle set just a little bit above idle since the torque convertor would engage and I could drive along at a slow rate and be somewhat safe(?) So I used some shop rags to tie the throttle in that position. That seemed to work okay.
It actually worked great going down the long barely downhill grade, but then.....I got to the steep uphill grade. It still carried me forward but at a speed less than a crawl. It took me about 25 minutes to get up that hill, and then joyously it was downhill again all the way to the house.
It took me less than an hour to change the throttle cable when I got the new one from Roger

The cable is busted, that's no big deal. But it won't start, it just cranks. I'll order one from Roger, when I get home, I'm on the boat, and it's another money pit. Cept this thing is thousands, instead of hundreds. Just pumped out the fuel tanks, and a refill of 5000 gallons of diesel. Even at the commercial rate it maxed out my Chevron card.

What a surprise- must be a pretty decent craft if the fuel tank holds 5k gallons.
The QE2 is sat up in Dubai but no idea if they are going to do a Queen Mary on it or just let it rot. Seems an age since I watched it set sail in 1982 full of troops going to the Falklands.

At 71 LOA, she's a full displacement vessel that Dee and I can handle by ourselves. Time for us before we're to old to do anything. Looking at the Sea of Cortez, for a shakedown cruise, this fall.
We haven't taken her out for almost 7 years. Doing a haul out, all new thru hull fittings, new electronics, paint, and interior refurbishment. Plus a rebuild of the Seakeeper antiroll system. Very expensive! In frames on the mains, generators, new watermakers Literally a complete refit!

With a pedigree like that sounds as though not only can you sail her, when you are too old to handle her you may make quite a killing financially- good for you!

As far as my car, it's a PITA! I just want it to be reliable again. It's still giving me fits electrically. Sooner or later it'll get sorted out. I may have to fly in one of the experts. I suppose laying out by the pool, drinking my booze, and all the Hookers and Blow in Vegas, might be an incentive, after the car is fixed!
