To be far I had absolutely 43 people between here and other listings. Listed as OBO. Should I have used BAT? Probably. Sorry for confusion sir, I'm just one guy dealing with everything.

What were your bids?

Well, the general protocol is for a prospective buyer to post "PM Sent" and send a PM, as you did. Functional equivalent of hollering "DIBS!!!"

But that's more for:

1 - Pieces and parts.

2 - Stuff that is only listed on here.

Also, not a hard and fast rule, just how it generally works.

This was a pretty unusual situation. Very nice car, very low price, listed multiple places.
No surprise there was a lot of interest. No surprise that there are some people a bit unhappy that they missed out on it.

Perhaps Jake should have done it a bit differently, but hindsight is 20/20.
From what I know of him, he's a straight up guy.
I highly doubt he was trying to screw anyone over or anything like that. The one who he likely screwed over the most is...

Himself.

I think Jay did the right thing . I never thought I was done wrong. I was naive to the process.

"officially" the process is supposed to be done in the open so there are no mystery sales. A price "OBO" is OK, knowing that in most cases the OBO is going to be less than the original asking price. The rules state that you need to post a price, and with that usually a response method. Sometimes that's "first PM", sometimes that's "first post". Things get muddy when there's a private auction running in the background. That's certainly not the intent. To keep things on the level, better to put the car somewhere else for auction and link to it from here, so everybody has a fair chance. It's water over the dam at this point. I know it isn't Jake's intent to try and bullwink anybody, and the forced situation is less than ideal for the sale.

That said, somebody got a smokin' deal on a great car. It isn't going to be registered in California anytime soon, so it isn't a local buyer unless they have a residence out of the state. A lot of love and care is included with the car.

Jake, are you going to be able to stay in your current PV digs?

I'll be here in PV till the kiddo is out for the summer. Then possibly up to WA (Everett). Or closer to the shop. 84 miles a day is getting old

Eh, depends on where you're at. Going from PV to where Greg's shop in Anaheim is absolutely bonkers. Depending on where he is in PV, it can take up to 20-30 minutes just to *get* to a freeway, then you get to deal with So Cal traffic *on* the freeway. And from PV, every direction is gonna suck, especially if he's taking the 91 east. That kind of commute just sucks the life out of you. All that and being a single dad? Nope, I totally understand the decision.

Ducman, Good luck and I hope all goes well for you!

Jake built a big part of my car when it was at Gregs shop. We can't let him leave! Maybe we can put together a fund so he can live in Newport and commute to the new shop in Orange. It takes a village!

I only had to drive 50 miles to and from Malibu. The only saving grace is that I got off of work late at night so I could drive as fast as I wanted in the canyons as nobody was out there but me.

I wouldn't wish an LA commute on anyone, especially with a manual trans car.
