VINwiki's Subtle Diss on the 928
I came across this VINwiki video posted earlier this year where they interview a guy about his experience finding a good deal on a 911 off of Craigslist. During his discussion the editors take the opportunity to throw the 928 under the bus (starts at the 1:27 mark). I won't spoil the diss as you can watch for yourself. Those ba$tards! Lol. To save you the time, the rest of the video is kinda boring (unless you are into this type of car minutiae like me ).

I always am left shaking my head when people do this.
Hopefully it's all in good fun, kinda like how it's so incredibly fun to HATE AUBURN.
No, no... that's different. Auburn is inherently evil and filthy. Sorry. Bad comparison.
I would love a 911, I think they are so cool. But so is a 928.

....that's a bit of a stretch. 77 - 86.....yea, 928's win hands down. After that it can get sketchy.
Not to nitpick every year, I'd take a 964 3.6 Turbo over any 928, even the same year GTS. It ain't the same ballpark, not even the same league. It ain't even the same sport......
The 87+ G50 cars are close to automotive sports car perfection.

Honestly, I would have lost the seller’s number after he blew me off the first, second, or third time...
On the other hand, that might be why I have never scored a tremendous “find”.
As an side: While I took absolutely no offense to the 928 inference. I find people that use the phrase:
”That being said...” to be slightly self important that like to hear their own thoughts, as a rule of thumb.

I can just imagine this scenario:
Well healed young urban professional enters Porsche dealership in 1993 with a gleaming guards red 964 Turbo spinning on the dealership turntable and, with check book in hand, motions to the Turbo and says "I'm ready to buy the most powerful Porsche in your dealership".
Salesperson, looking forward to the sale, says, "No problem sir, I'll pull it right out front for a test drive.".
Our soon to be new Porsche owner excitedly waits out front anticipating the rush of rowing the gear box in the turbo amidst the rush of the BOV popping off, but is soon met with the sound of a thunderous V8 rounding the corner and up pulls an Amazon Green 928GTS.
"What is this?" the disillusioned young man says, "I wanted the 964 Turbo!"
Salesman says "The Turbo is not the most powerful Porsche in the dealership, the GTS has more horsepower".
The young man says "How can that be, it doesn't have a turbo charger!"
The salesman replies "If you tie a hairdryer to a pig, it's still a pig" (Okay, I just threw that in there. Years of pent up 928 frustration ).
Out the door walks the potential sale, ego crushed.
Porsche 928 conspiracy theorists believe that a GT cammed GTS brought the power output of the 928 too close to (maybe above) the 964 Turbo for Porsche to be comfortable with. Porsche knew they were phasing out the 928, and didn't want the 928 to check out on top of the horsepower heap. So they scuttled its performance with cam profiles that defy logic. 911 owners can pretend that the 928 was an ill-fated attempt at their extinction, but the 928 conspiracy theorists know that fate had nothing to do with it, but it was a purposeful and planned extinction of a superior platform by Porsche.
The truth is out there.

Some may laugh, but such things actually happen.
In one of this great books, Bob Lutz talked about a similar scenario at GM. They were mounting a front to lead the charge of luxury SUV's with the Escalade. The "bean counters" squawked it had too much power....because it was going to be more than the Corvette. Their argument was quite stupid, all their studies and focus groups proved there are X number of well heeled buyers who are simply going to buy the most powerful vehicle in GM's line, regardless of what it is.
Bob had to put a report together proving that people don't walk into a dealership to buy a Corvette and walk out with a 7,000lb 22' long SUV. The Escalade also cost more with a higher profit margin.......
Ultimately the bean counters won. The 2004 Escalade had 345hp while the Corvette was rated for 350.
