Cam Chain Concerns
Hey guys, potential problem.
I have cam covers off for some maintenance work, and noted some slack in the driver's side cam chain.
I'm not sure what normal should be.
The passenger side is tensioned firm on the pad.
Driver's side loose enough I can get 5-6 mm between the pad and the chain when I pull up on it.
Did I avoid a chain failure by finding this or is this still in spec?

If you can safely rotate the motor by hand, does the slack go away? It may just be one of the cams turned back a bit as everything came to rest (?)

I would not worry about it at all.

How many miles on that motor? You barely have any wear. I have 160k on mine and barely a 1mm groove in my pads. I opted not to change them.

Thank you everyone for feedback.
I will turn the engine later and see if it changes tension as cams rotate.
This engine has 115k on it.
Running well but had some leaking from cam cover seal and one spark plug seal.
I had asperations of pulling the heads and doing gaskets... but got a lot of different feedback, also saw that I have studs on the heads instead of bolts. Which I think I remember GB saying you need to pull the engine in order to do?

Correct again.
Hand rotation of crank raised tension immediately, for anyone playing at home.
I’m in the garage tonight to escape from the seven 14 year old boys that are “sleeping “ over at our house.....

[QUOTE=DeWolf;14760296]Yeah, I guess I'm thankful (considering what I was doing at 14) this crew is in a state of arrested development, they seemed more interested in nerf guns and video games...
