Smile Relocating to St. Petersburg, FL. Who's there?

I'm taking a job in St. Petersburg, Florida VERY SOON. Yes, I'm giving up the lovely winters of the NorthEast. Not sure exactly where I'll end up living, but within reasonable commuting distance from St. Pete's, I'm sure.

Will the 928 Rennlisters from the area please stand up

Overwhelming amount of planning and coordination, especially with the number of vehicles (6) currently in my possession.

Any advice, thoughts, and of course 928 fellowship would be highly appreciated!

Lou,

Yes I did receive that call yesterday, as hoped

Gerry,

The Long Island hangout will remain as is...for a while at least, while I go back and forth between FLorida and NY...and hey, soon my place in FL will be another destination to consider for the gang!

Dozman,

thanks for the tip...I'll keep that in mind during my house hunt.

PbFoot and SeaCay,

Looking forward to meeting you guys!

St. Pete.

Who's there? Old people. This is the land of oblivious drivers. St. Pete is (somewhat) strange for a New Yorker. Usually they just keep on the I-95 and settle close there abouts. Hope you didn't take a pay cut to work here. Florida has what is known as the sunshine tax (i.e., lower wages).

Now that I've got that out of me. Florida is great. Personally, i live on the east central coast. The west coast seems a little more laid back as compared to the east coast. I know this sounds kinda hippyish, but maybe its the wave energy. The gulf coast is crystal clear, white beaches. Florida houses do not have basements. I know, I know, who needs basements... I work on cars. Inevitably though, crap gets stored in the garage for lack of better storage, try and find a spacey garage. Hot as hell here from May thru Oct, which is also huricane season. Mind that when you buy a house. The west coast does get hit. Awesome in the winter. Like I said, no putting the car on blocks.

Welcome, it's great to have another Rennlister here!

Tom,

It will only mean my trip will continue to be long for me, as I'd probably be going to NC through the lonnng way, in order to catch the tour from the beginning. Don't give my spot away just yet :P

Rez,

Thanks for the info. That was my impression from my first visit, but I thought I was being judgemental and opiniated. Now I realize the challenge ahead in switching from hussle-and-bussle environment to laid back.... well may be not. I guess I've been warned....and I'm not looking forward to adjusting to a somewhat slower pace. My job will be challenging though, so I expect to be on my toes on that level. I'm keeping my house in NY, as it seems I'll be needing to come back to it for my NY fix.

I can't imagine living without a basement...and what's a hurricane
I suppose planning on leaving the cars outside for a while is not a good idea.... If you know of a 4-6 car garage whith bathroom and room for a bed, please let me know!

Gerry!

Great idea! I'll buy the beer AND provide the Porsches. Only one condition: The Porsches will be dropped off at my place and everyone returns on a free flight back home with you!

Indeed I am~

106 miles away, just up I-4.

-Florida is a strangely DEAD ZONE when it comes to Porsche get-togethers. There are plenty of us here, but we just don't seem to network enough!

WELL, the geriatric nature of St.Pete has already been expounded upon [now you know why I live in Orlando, with it's FAR younger population....and good club scene]. I wish I could add....but I can't. All I can say is that you need to take your car to Pass A Grille beach and have someone photograph the two of you and or your lover with the sunset in the background, since the sunsets on the west coast of Florida are incredible!

Anyway, I've got Pilsner Urquell chillin' in the fridge. Feel like a little drive up I-4? Let me know.

N!

Well like SeaCay, I have only half the cylinders in my 951, but hope to have a 928 in the next year of so! I have been down here for 2 1/2 years, also moving from NY, but the other end (Niagara Falls) Can't complain about the palm trees and sunshine!

Yeah, St Pete is more for the geriatric crowd, but is actually quite beautiful. Tampa is a little more fun. Especially Ybor City! Talk about your clubs! Yeah, it's more laid back down here. Nudest colonies everywhere! I live over an hour north of Tampa (Spring Hill) and most here work in either St. Pete or Tampa. I think you like it down here. There's actually even so hills and twisties here and there....

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm starting to think the only reason I got the job is my younger age...lol. The more I learn about the area the more I realize I should be very careful with the choice of location to settle in. I'm not ready to be surrounded by retired folks only (no offense) just yet... I guess I'll be doing more homework than I expected
...but of course looking forward to the mild winters down there!
