Default Snap - Broken e-brake cable on the passenger side. easy fix? what parts needed?

anyone replace the entire or parial ebrake cable, I pulled on it and went "Snap". it broke near the passenger side hub, but after looking at the mechanism i dont know how it all joins together and what needs to be replaced if i am to fix it. i do use it at the track and on the street. most of the racers ditch all the e-brake stuff, but i still use it and if the repair is easy , i might take it on.
thanks,

Mk

The passenger side half is the 'main' portion of the ebrake cable, $50 used, from 928Intl.

There's a pin and a circlip that hold the two halves of the cable together, you'll want to save the pin from your current brake cable. Or just buy a whole e-brake cable from Anderson, and save yourself the hassle of the other side breaking soon..

You'll have to undo the cable at the handle (14 mm nut, with a 7mm wrench to hold the flats on the cable) , pull it out of the tube through the floor of the rear seat, unbolt it from the crossmember.

Then you have to pull the caliper, the rotor, and the e-brake shoes to be able to undo the cable end from the adjuster. There are some good pictures in another thread from today:

thats awesome Rob... what makes the driver side engage . i see that it clips through a pin and circlip to one of those holes, but i dont see how it puts tension o it to make the driver side engage. i do remember how to do the ebrake final connection as i just finished the wheel bearing job on that side. i remember staring at it for a few mins to figure out how it worked. who thinks and designs these things!??

Mark--

In Rob's latest picture, the two tabs at the bottom are bolted through the crossmember so stay the same distance apart. As it's laying on the floor in his picture, you are looking at the cables from the rear on the car. The driver's side cable is on the left, and the end of that connects to the tab immediately above it. Pull on the main passenger side cable draws the tab and the connected end towards the passenger side, pulling the drivers side cable out at the same time.

i got it all installed. (Thanks for the pics!!) BUT, (UGGGG ) , the cable housing on the passenger side is TOO short! doesnt mate to the hub!!!! maybe its because i have a 86 chassis and suspension and the cable i tried to install is out of an S4? my car is an S4, but if you remember, we bolted on the Holbert car's running gear and suspension.
is the S4 e-brake cable at the passenger side, about 6" shorter?

All the parking brake cable components are the same, 78 to 95. Got a pic of what's wrong?

REALLY? uh oh. maybe the holbert car had a one off brake cable assembly, because the section from the mounting on the cross memeber to the hub is about 6" longer.

from the pic, you can see that section aligned up with the new cable (too short) mounted to the car
the next pic shows it going well past the hub , about 6" and allows for the end of the cable housing to fit into the hub housing securely.

thoughts???

Yeah, those tubes are kind of essential. Glad you found it and were able to get it out of the hub, they often corrode in-place.

I save all my old parts in a box for 'just in case'. They have come in handy on several occasions for reference purposes.

i have SO many used parts that i never tap into, but generally, i even keep old wheel bearings.. (just incase) i just figured there was no need to keep the old cable. boy, was that a mistake.
im still reluctant to toss out the remainder.

I'm 95% the same way.. for some reason, I've been collecting less parts lately. this one almost caused a little problem! Syched Rob chimed in!
im like the only car in the paddock that has a e-brake... but since i drive it on the street and sometimes it comes in handy, like on the trailer.....so, im keeping it in.
