Alright folks. After much planning and getting all my materials together I went back to the drawing board for another shot at improving my transmission mount rebuild. I chronicled the whole thing and posted it to Youtube so you can see how I did it. The new mounts came out great. I have no doubt they will be an adequate replacement for the factory mounts. Here is the link to the Youtube video:
.
Enjoy.

Wow...this is a hugely important contribution to the 928 community. Take a bow....If these hold up, you are going to be making many more of these.

You're going to have many more 928 friends with efforts like these. Well done.

Much appreciated. Glad I can contribute something as I've gotten so much help from this forum. What you didn't see in the video was how much of a pain it is to get the old rubber off. So if anyone wants me to do theirs they would have to factor that in when calculating turnaround time and cost. As yet I don't have a stockpile of old mounts to use as cores to work on as an "exchange" program. I could also use a stiffer poly if anyone wants that but that would be uncharted territory.

So, hypothetically, if you get some cores and were to start providing this rebuild service w/ core exchange, do you have any idea what the cost would be? I haven't checked mine but I definitely need motor mounts, and I can't imagine I don't also need these...

I have a spare set of used mounts that I could donate to the cause as well. I'd like to replace the tired units on my 88 5-spd as well.

What I've been telling people who PM me is $50 each to rebuild the mounts if you send me yours COMPLETELY cleaned of all rubber. If you send your old nasty dirty mounts that I have to get the rubber off, I'm thinking $100 each. I'll maintain those prices until this becomes a chore. Save yourself $100, and me some aggravation, and send me clean mounts please. I understand some people don't have all the tools or the time to clean the rubber off so I can do that. If you have an extra set you want to donate to the cause I'll give you a break on the cost until I have a pile of them. That way I can work on them when I have the time and can provide a quicker turn around to all.

This sounds like a perfect plan to me. Folks choosing this option are DIY types looking for a cost savings and won't mind doing the rubber removal.

Yeah, and it will keep me from REALLY disliking the work so I won't mind doing it.

I'm bumping this thread up now that I have got a rebuilt set of mounts. Cleaning all traces of the old rubber is a major hassle. I cut the bulk of it off with a sawzall then it takes a bunch of cycles of burning off what is left with a torch and scrapping off the layer that bubbles up and repeating. You'll get to a point where there is only a hard baked on layer left. I got that off using a sanding disc in my grinder and a wire wheel on the drill.

The turn around time was immediate since Waldo928 had mounts premade. These are copies of a new factory mount with the cavity filled in.

The proof will be in the years to come but I have high confidence in them.

Damn that's nice! Great job on rebuilding these. I need to take a look at mine and see what shape they're in.

I got my mounts last week. I'll put them in over the summer and then report back.

Both of my mounts failed while moving my rebuilt transaxle into place. Waldo offered a refund or replacements but I put them aside, reused the old mounts, and forgot about it. I suggest you put them in a vise like the photo on the first page and twist them around to make sure they are bonded well.

Why do you suppose Porsche left that gap between the two metal pieces on the original mounts and didn't make it solid?

It sure would be easier to make if it were solid. And it would be inherently stronger with more rubber contact area.
