Default Dogleg transaxle.

I have a 1982 928 with the manual, 5 speed transaxle. It has a limited slip differential. It is making a bearing noise & it won't go into 2nd or 3rd gear while it is cold. After it warms up, I can shift into 2nd & 3rd, going up, but still can't downshift into 2nd, without shifting into 3rd first. Can anyone recommend a source for bearings, synchros, and other necessarily bits to rebuild it? Or should I just replace it? Will a later, non-dogleg 5 speed bolt in?

Any trans from 1980.5 and newer will bolt it but they all have the same shift pattern

Once they get to the point of actually not being able to shift into gear, they are generally a financial money pit, compared to one that just needs the synchros repaired.

For everyone, out there, who is driving one of these transmission which "crunch" when shifting into 1st, 2nd, or 3rd....fix it before this happens!
