I wish I can find an average conditioned GT for under $26k.
Surprise they didn't breakdown '78-82 into '78-79 and '80-82, since they are different animals with different engines.
Also surprise that they would rate '83-84 higher than '78-79 in same condition.
Who "rates" them? 911 drivers?
Anyone here was consulted regarding the research done for this article?
It's crazy tables like these that really drives prices down on the 928.

I think that the problem is that the distribution of condition is becoming bimodal: There are crappy 928s and pretty-good to excellent 928s. The middle of the distribution is going away. Crappy 928s are getting crappier and the otherwise OK 928s have been either getting mechanically restored or falling into the crappy range.
Add crappy to exceptional, divide by two and you get an average price for an average 928 that doesn't exist to the extent that it did 10 years ago.

However, the article specifically states that the prices reflect average to excellent conditioned cars in each type. They didn’t include the ave of all sales as you may had alluded to.
their point is, average conditioned GT us $16 whereas excellent conditioned cars are $26k. That’s ludicrous.
Prices listed are about 5 years behind. Hoi

5 years behind? More like, closer to 10..... at least since the rebound of the economy. Those are 2009/2010 prices, if......

Excellence is a very flawed source for anything having to do with the 928. I cancelled my subscription years ago. It is a terrible resource.

...apparently is their 6th edition.
Wonder if you look back to the 1st or 2nd editions, if the pricing hadn't changed since?
And not even a 928 on he cover

Having followed GT valuations for the last 7 years quite closely, I think the figures for GTs are inaccurate now. Just trying to find an average condition car is hardly possible anymore. There are some excellent examples and some trashed examples. Hard to find something average. I really only follow GTs, so I can't talk about the rest.
I did finally find what I would call an average GT last year to fix up and actually drive some. I paid slightly out of the range of that list. Based on the last 7 years of observations, I think the deal was ok in the end. Sure, we all could have bought more 928s earlier had we known where the market was headed... :-)

Totally agree. How many times are we going to do this a year.
