I always thought it was the coolest feature when I was a kid,but forgot about it until the other night.
Except though it isn't actually the blinkers that illuminate - its the marker lights.

This drives me nuts. We have back in parking - and I have to go back, unlock the car, and switch the blinkers of probably 50% of the time.

Unless modified or broken there is a chime for that. Door open, keys out and turn signal activated gets you a special chime mode. Also chimes for key in lock, but ignition off and door open, also for key out of lock, marker light on and door open.

On later models the alarm has a radio protection mode. If installed correctly - removing the radio from the frame triggers the alarm (there is a normally grounded case and a normally floating case option).

The later alarm unit is also connected to the diagnostics port - you can find out what specifically is causing false alarms by reading out the module codes with a hammer. (Beats taking a hammer to the unit!)

Also the later alarm unit has expansion potential - there are several extra inputs (active low & high mix) that you can connect to other trigger sensors (e.g. ultrasonic sensor, incline sensor, motions sensor etc.)

Came up in another thread...

The dash lights are always on with ignition.

They actually usually get dimmer when you turn the lights on (controlled by variable illumination).

On S4+ models There is a photocell for the daytime mode (top center of the instrument cluster) controlling how bright they are in daytime (light off) so e.g. it dims down a bit if you go into a tunnel.

We don't have audible chimes on Australian cars. It drove me nuts when I was in the States to have that annoying chime nagging me, to do something like close a door I intentionally had open.

Quite a lot of US cars have been de-chimed for that reason (e.g. unplug chime relay in console). It does have some value - a less annoying sound would be nice (but perhaps less effective). These days it would be better if it just sent you a text.

That'd probably be just as annoying ... I must be getting cranky in my old age

Also there in the later cars that have 3-pont belts in the back, but not really useful since the shoulder belt screws up the way it's threaded.

In that case you can use them to hold a thin pack of gum.
