You absolutely need to know the condition of the pickup tube. They have been known to get clogged, and also to fall off, and even cracked in the metal tube. Any of these conditions will not allow oil to be pulled into the pump.

This requires either a borescope with light, or removal of the cross brace, and oil pan.

Once the oil pump is installed with the vaseline in it, you can try to spin it with a drill and the right socket on the end. Remove the filter, and see if you are getting good flow from the pump to the filter housing. If that works, install the filter with oil in it, and see if you have an oil cooler line up to the radiator area(don't know if your year has an oil cooler in the rad). Anyway, find the circuit, and check for flow into the crankcase.

I got it running valves are fine but head gasket(s) are gone. After three heat cycles this is what I found.

That explains why the oil pump is seized.......and does not bode well for the rod and main bearings. It would be foolish to even consider trying to only replacing the head gaskets....

What is odd is I only found a half a cup of coolant in the filter. Once I start the motor with new oil this is what I ended up with, literally ran the car on three occasions for no more than four minutes total. What I was told this car sat for years and years he supposedly had a mechanic fix it in New York. Of course I knew none of this in the beginning even though I asked him the last time you ran the car he indicated about a year and a half or so ago after the mechanic worked on it. I am concerned regardless of the bearings if the head is compromised and may have to be shaved including the block. There are other issues with this car electrically and so forth and so on so trying to let him know what direction to take. He seems to have a pretty thin budget and this is not the kind of car or repairs that meets that criteria. I think he's waiting for me to give him some type of direction. Since it is an 84-Euro five-speed not sure if it's worth repairing. Concerned about the actual cost to get this car running correctly if it's even worth it. I really don't have an idea what this car is worth if he was just to sell it as is. I know he has 5000 into it and probably more. It's has some passenger side door damage, needs front rotors and the fuel pump relay is not turning on, the Dash warning lamps stay on occasionally along with other electrical issues. The mileage seems to be real from his statements about 75,000. As I said I'm not sure what direction to send him any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks

from the info you need an engine.
based on the rest ,
this is the kind of machine that a committed owner with some service bucks and a big tool box might take on ,
otherwise it might be a parts car

Being a Euro grey market car the speedo/odometer was probably replaced to read MPH so T M U .... I would also check the engine code number to be SURE it has a Euro S block before making any long term plan. And we all know that the engine wiring harness is going to fall apart if you try to move it !! I suggest that you have little chance of winning if you work on someone's very neglected 928 where they are trying to minimize the repair costs. Sooner or later they will pull the plug as it gets "too expensive" and you will be the guy who took their money and never fixed the car..........just like the mechanic in New York !!!

He's well upside down already. there is no 'financial' upside to be had. Car needs body work, paint, int, brakes, elec, engine. Redoing the whole car might be done for $20k all-in, and it will only be worth maybe $12k or a bit more when he's done.

Part it out, or sell the chassis to the breakers yard and let them deal with it. Try to sell it to a 928 person, and even though it's a Euro, still won't bring a lot of money unless someone has a good running euro engine to toss in just sitting on a pallet.

I'm sorry, but this is not a car to skimp on. Either dump it, or start writing serious checks. The rule of comparative neglect is also in play. If the car needs so many things that can be seen, imagine what it needs that hasn't been discovered yet? AC, steering rack, shocks, bushings, fuel tank, etc. May not need them all, but sure will need some of it.
