Forget the dash covers. Remove it and have it recovered. Just my opinion because I did the same and saw what the covers looked like in a otherwise nice interior.

Yeap, remove and recover. There's some good leather ones on eBay now, or take it to a shop and have them do it. I would stay away from the plastic cap covers, they all start warping in less than a month....and creak like hell

Previous owner of my 87 glued down one of those vinyl dash covers & it was wavy so I had to remove it. He spread on so much glue / silicone the dash underneath was ruined. Upon close inspection he was "covering up" a few very minor cracks that didn't warrant what he did to it.
Right now I have one of these installed on the dash & pod:

For less than $50 it's a stop gap until I'm able to have a permanent cover made. I've been asked many times by other Porsche owners where I purchased my nice cover, thinking it's there to protect my dash.
This is what I'm covering up:

Yup, it was actually pure silicone. So thick there was no way to remove it. I ended up using a razor blade and by hand "shaving" the dash to make it smooth so the $50 cover would sit flat.
Had I known the install was that bad, I would have simply cut the wavy part and glued that back down. It still would have looked bad but good enough for now and would have saved me a crap load of work.

Remove and recover. It's easier and cheaper and a good investment. Every time you get into your car it's the first thing you see. I think I spent at least a few hundred bucks fooling around with various covers and none were all that great.
