Default Friends don't let friends install cheap plastic dash / pod overlays.

You can see in the before photo how wavy the cover was. I knew what hid underneath wasn't going to be pretty, but it had to go.
I found the manufactures sticker under the cover, made in Texas back in 2001.

I used a lot of heat and most of it peeled off like wet peanut-butter. Except in two places on the dash, and one on the pod where you can see the old dash ripped up. Shame really, had those two pieces held on I would only have your typical cracked dash.

Decision time, get a used one that won't be perfect but look like every other 100k mile 928 on the road or go full out with a leather replacement cover......

Here are the photos, I think he needed to use more glue.........

Well, given that you asked, and it's your money, I'd go with the leather cover

That's a very slippery slope..... First thought is black leather with gray stitching to match the seats / carpet.
From there my brain just goes into overdrive with crazy combinations.

Any suggestions will be taken into consideration.

Leather dash covers probably last forever in Wisconsin as they are mostly susceptible to sunlight.

I'd be happy to sell you a dash and pod cover just like the one you removed. It would be from Texas but it would be in one piece, and it would be out of my garage.

You could use as much glue as you see fit.

Just so you don't have a "cheap" dash cover, you can decide how much above retail you want me to charge you, so it won't be cheap anymore.

I have a new one in black, never installed, still in the box. Hopefully made in Texas but not sure :-) It came with a car I bought a couple of years ago. Very large to ship, but not very heavy of course. Let me know if you're interested.

Get it recovered by Rob Budd! It can be vinyl and you won't be sorry.

Agree with Jim- pull it and have Rob recover it, make it look like _that_ never happened.

Whatever you do, do the same to the console and door arm rests. These pieces are designed to flow into each other visually. They don't, if you have different materials or colors on them.

To me, a 928 where this doesn't match would be worth about $3k less than one where it all matches.

I have a funny feeling Lorelei will make sure it matches nicely.

+1 on Budd.

Davek9 just had Budd do a mix leather (maybe vynil) and alcantara in brown with orange french seams. Very tasty!

As bas as the dash looks, it can serve as a core.

That's exactly my problem....I really want to redo the dash in leather, but then I saw another post where Nicole mentioned this and I looked...dammit, she's right, and then one thing leads to another and it's $5K to make all the damn leather match. (*sigh*)

I saw a Youtube video where a kid recovered the dash of his 944 in vinyl in situ. Of course, you'd have to scrape all that glue off, first...

At a minimum a new black vinyl or leather dash will flow just fine. If I decide to do anything else.... slippary slope for sure.

Doing the dash in a "new" color has to flow into the arm rest and down the center console. I'm fully prepared to do this if I go that route. One thought, match the dash / console / door to the seats. But then the door insert would need to be changed to something else.

The pod can be a contrasting color / cover. I've seen that before and if done correctly, can look nice and add some depth to the interior.

Ugh.....no idea.

Anyone have one of those carpet overlay's I can use for now???

Re-instaling one of the vinyl dash overlay's as offered in this thread is one thought, but I don't really want to go there. I've done way too many "temporary" fixes with my other cars, trying to get away from that habit with this one.
