With barn dust
After a bath
Hi everyone, Im a new member from the Detroit area after recently acquiring a barn find 78 928 5 speed. Silver with Pasha interior and no sunroof. It was put in storage back sometime before 1998 after running out of fuel and burning out the fuel pumps. I will need occasional technical advice as I work to make it road ready again, as it will need all the hydraulics replaced, tires replaced, fuel pumps replaced and that's just what I know now.

Anyone know of someone parting a car out? Or a good source of good used parts?

Wow !! .. that looks very tidy Love to see some more pics inside and engine bay.

Give Roger a call at 928'sRus ..... http://www.928srus.com/index.html

Give Mark or Tom a call at .... http://www.928intl.com/

Between those two vendors you should be able to get just about anything you need.

Edit - beaten to it but conforms my thoughts.

Welcome.
You have a lot of fellow 928 owners in the Detroit area that can share their knowledge with you.

Welcome to the tank.

You're probably already planning to (but didn't explicitly list it) replace the rubber fuel lines - do not attempt to run the engine without doing it.

Good luck!

Be patient: replace fuel lines, regulators and dampeners. Have the injectors checked for leaks if applicable (witch hunter if he's still around). The aforementioned plus idle stabilizer valve, breather hoses and vacuum hoses should all be replaced at the same time. But Any questionable hydraulic hoses and fittings should be replaced 'stat'!

Question, are you going to try and bring her back to her original state?

If so, be warned, several of the 78's parts are year specific. Like the radio, better have bought a mega ball ticket if it is on your wishlist. Also, the foglight/turn signal front bezel is a one year piece, too...which both of yours are missing. The headlight bezels are 78 only too...or possibly 79.

The center caps for your rims would have been aluminum, with a steel inner collar...plastic would not be correct. Shoot me a PM with a list of what you need...may be able to help you out. Parted out a 78 a couple years ago, and have some things that I see missing on your car.

Rob Budd, can help you out with your carpet needs...and he's in Dearborn. I'll find a link...if this damn tablet quits acting goofy!

Welcome to the tank and congrats!

Car looks really great! Please post pics of the interior!!!!

My comments:

1.) Fuel lines and power steering hoses, replace before start, as mentioned above.

2.) If I were in your shoes, I would want to know about the conditions of the heads before I invested too much. They tend to corrode at the head gasket interface, if the coolant is not changed regularly.

Wow - nice find. Are those the original Pirellis? Seems like the original tread pattern?
Anyway, a number of the parts you need will be very hard to fond, like the radio, rear muffler/pumpkin and the front fog light surrounds.
Looking forward to following your progress.

Nice looking car!
Don't get overwhelmed, but another thing to look at soon is the lower ball joints. If they are still aluminum they should be changed to the newer steel ones for safety reasons.
I too have a 78, but mine is a functioning project, I get to drive it between sessions on the jack stands.
