928/928 S key chains - Market Research
I've been talking to my manufacturer about a production run of pre-S4 model keychains, since some of my customers have asked about them.
In order to make this feasable, there is a minimum order I'd have to make for the production run. As you can imagine, I only want to do this, if there is enough interest in the community. It is also likely that the price will be a hint higher than for keychains from their standard program. They would be available some time in early 2004.
Please answer the questions in the poll, to give me an idea, if I should pursue this. I see this more as a service to the community than a money maker (believe me, 928 keychains will never make anybody rich...)
Thanks for your input!
PS: Here is an image of the S4 model keychains, to give you an idea of quality and finish:

I think solid silver would probably end up close to $100, and solid gold - I don't know... There was a solid gold model keychain on ebay a few months back, and sold for something close to $400, I think.

Depends on the weight of silver or gold required to cast it. A 1ounce silver coin proof from the US mint is only $24. A 1 ounce gold proof is $630. So the silver price is a little high and your a bit under with the gold. Yes should I buy one I would pay a higher price. Would be worth it, since a keychain bauble takes a lot of abuse and the plating is quite likely to wear off.

Nicole: I'm curious as to how many you need to order to the price. My interior is maroon; it is difficult visualizing them against the dash, but I voted for gold.

Re: 928/928 S key chains - Market Research
I have one of Nichol's 928S4 keychains in silver. It's very nice, detailed, heavy and well crafted. Maybe too nice to use. It's part of a Porche Keychain collection I have. I had a second one for everyday use but gave to a fellow 928er who did me a favor. I'd buy a couple more.

Nicole,
You really need to organize a business trip to Korea. Tax write off...
Those folks could take your Idea and do it up on a production basis later the same day.
Embroidered patches, baseball caps shirts, sweats jackets high quality, incredible detail. Carved Horn, cast and hand etched brass or light metal that would make you toss your current inventory/suppliers in a blink.
As to "paintings" they have shops even in the small ville's that can do everything from Rembrandt, to the flippies for a Ren and Stimpy show, fast with the emphasis on cheap!.
You have to barter though or they won't respect you. Haggling is a way of life.
Have you considered scrimshawed, Narwhale horn, key chains oops,
How about Shark tooth?

Yes, let me go to Korea (or Hong Kong, or whatever else has been suggested to me already) and the next day I'd have the sharks from Porsche sue me for damages and take my shark away...
Ever thought of copyrights? Porsche has the right to the shapes of its cars. You need to get licensed by them and pay licensing fees to make models of their cars. I have no intention of getting into the legal complications of such licensing, when I have a vendor who already does that for all kinds of cars. Sure, the weak dollar is working against me righ tnow, But I do hope this will not always be the case.
I prefer to build my business on solid grounds, by offering high quality products that are properly licensed by the manufacturer.
Does that make sense?

Bigger..plastic..silver in color..Make a great Xmas ornament dangling from the tree.
As far as a key chain...dunno..I keep mine simple. 1 key on the the remote start/entry module and the factory leather keychain with crest.
IMHO...of course.
