bet you could tap it for 3/8 NPT and fit a barb if you were in a REAL pinch.

It would have to be a real pinch. The pressure-cast aluminum is hardly strong enough to endure the pressure put on it when a tapered pipe fitting is screwed in. My prediction is a radial crack starting at the outer end of the opening, and a never-ending battle of trying to put some sealant in the crack and managing the fitting to keep it from leaking more.

It seems that no learning has passed on from these design mistakes over the decades since. The V8's in the Cayenne are still plagued with similar coolant fitting issues.

Spoke w/ Roger and the "new" part is the cast one piece, and I ordered it.

I'll use the downtime and dealing with a coolant issue to install that new aluminum radiator that arrived last Thursday

Thanks all for the input and suggestions!

WAY cheaper than billet.
This.

And this.

True. Engineering supports that. But it's institutional learning that enables it.

Its a pretty easy part to machine if there is enough interest.

It could also be made so it is the same diameter as the water valve so the factory tapered "short hose" could be replaced with standard/modern bulk hose.

Now that would be a nice upgrade. My 90 model has the one piece fitting
