944 for 1500?
Truth told- a 944 on fuchs is a good buy for 1500. I sold 2 set of fuchs last year for 1600 and 1100 respectively.
If you are patient get a 1985.5 or newer. And your 2k will be well spent. They come up all the time. Any given day, you'll find them for a couple grand.
The best ones have Fuchs, LSD, Konis, sport seats, intact timing belts, but the fuel pump, fuel pump relay or clutch slave cyl are toast.look in the rear hatch area, the option plate sticker will tell all.
On a side note
I have an 86 951, yellow to sell for 4000- (redone phone dials, LSD, Konis. 5k with Fuchs. Which is a much better car. It needs a clutch master cylinder. I have the part. But I picked up an 89 turbo in Baltimore that I'd rather work on this summer.
I did see an NA with an S2 engine swap for 4200 on Craigslist near pittsburgh ...might be worth looking of you don't want to deal with forced induction.
Cheers

Good advise, though finding a car with Fuchs is more likely that one with LSD or sports seats, but they are about. Also don't rely on the options sticker to tell you if it has LSD, do a physical check, transmissions have likely been swapped out over the 30+ years.
Another thing to consider is the condition of the seats and LSD, it's not cheap to recover seats to a professional standard and rebuilding transmissions is complicated requiring specialist tools in most cases. Don't overpay if the seats are in poor shape or the transmission cannot be Road tested.

From: one thousand, five hundred miles north of Ft. Lauderdale for the summer.
Best on a trailer sometimes I ask the seller if he knows anyone and many times I have had them come through. If you rent or borrow a trailer you can use a come along and block the tires after 1/2 the pull (as come-a-longs normally don't have that much stroke). Most times its better to get it loaded back end forward since the Front Air dam does not allow for a straight pull up a ramp. Seen quite a few Air dams damaged by guys attempting to pull them up onto a trailer from the front
