What seats are compatible?

Similar year 911 seats should fit, but I don't know the exact crossover dates. I'd guess you're probably going to want to be looking at seats from 911s a bit older than your 944.
Why do you want to replace the seats? To upgrade to sport seats? Or just because yours are ripped/stained/whatever? If it's the latter, there are reupholstery kits available that aren't terribly expensive and are fairly straightforward to install. I can personally recommend the kit from Only944.com.

Seats from 83-85.1 944, 77-82 924, 87-88 924S, 78-83 911 SC, and 1984 911 Carrera will all be a direct fit. Maybe the 75-77 911 as well, I'm not sure on that.
The next generation of seat will also fit, the only necessary modification will be to remove the seat's seatbelt receiver and keep your car's tunnel-mounted receiver. Also, if the seats are powered, you have to run a power and ground wire. These seats come from
1985 1/2 - 1991 944, 92-95 968, 85-89 911 Carrera, 89-94 964, 95-98 993.
928, 914, 986, 996 seats are not a direct swap, but anything is possible with enough fab work.

Late style 944 seats use a slightly larger bolt, so the holes will be a bit bigger. Either use a washer (easy) or upgrade the mounts on your floor (hard but better for safety).
The non-sport late seats would be a significant upgrade over early non-sport seats in terms of comfort and lateral support. But if you can get a set of early sport seats, those are IMO the best factory seats available for either early or late.

My seats are sport seats, black in color, but most of her life was spent in California and the seats have some large cracks exposing the foam, I'm not to sure if the covers from only944 will look good if the foam is not in good condition when the new covers are in place, and have read that they are very difficult to install. I did find a salvage yard in NC called dcauto that has quite a selection of leather seats, I would like to keep my 944 as unmolested as possible but the seats have me puzzled.
