I am in need of new tires for my 951. I currently have 8” rear and 7” front 16” phonedial wheels, I would like 8” front wheels but that does not seem to be in the cards right now. I have already purchased 245/45R16 Yokohama AVS Intermediates for the rears, but I cannot find anyone selling them for the fronts. So I am trying to find a 225/50R16 front tire that compliments the Yoko’s that I already have. That is to say I would like similar adhesion characteristics. Like similar dry traction and similar wet traction and preferably similar warm up times. I also need the tires to be cheap since I am on a college budget. These are my choices as I see them. (each line links to Tire Racks description of the tire)
Kumho ECSTA 711 (High Performance Summer) $55
Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 (Ultra High Performance Summer) $66
Sumitomo HTR Z (Ultra High Performance Summer) : $81
Yokohama AVS ES100 (Ultra High Performance Summer) : $82
What do you all suggest?
Thanks,
John

I would say the AVS 100's because they would closest to the other yoko's in characteristics. I think its important in the balance of a car to have similar tires all around....

I have used the ES100's and they are great, I have the Sumi's on my 951 right now and they are pretty decent tired, very good in the wet!
Sumitomo HTR Z (Ultra High Performance Summer) : $81
Yokohama AVS ES100 (Ultra High Performance Summer) : $82
Avoid the Kumho's, Thats one purchase I regretted!

Yeah both of the Kumho's are attractive because they are cheap,
but the yoko's and Sumo's are probably better tires.
The Yoko's seem better because then I would have yoko's all around. But the ES100's appear to be a more wet weather oriented tire than my Yoko AVS Intermediates. This would seem to lead to more understear in the dry due to less front tire adhesion. But then when it was wet the reverse would happen the fronts would grip better than the rears and the car would swich to an overstear condition possibly causing me to spin.![Frown](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
The Sumitomo seem to have a tread pattern that more closely matches my Yokohama AVS Intermediates. The car would therefore have more predictable handling. However I would then have Yoko's in the back and Sumi's in the front which may have other problems.
Also as I understand it the ES100 is a better all around tire than the Sumi HTR, I'm not sure about this point though.
Thanks for all the replies so far.

Jfrahm, not where, when.
I bought them a year ago when Tire Rack had an the awesome sale on them. They have been sitting in my parents’ barn since them. ![Frown](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Well I’ve decided that the Yokohama ES100’s seem to be the best fit I am going to go ahead and 2 of them for my 7” fronts in 225/50-R60 unless anyone has any last minute advice.
Thanks all for the suggestions,
John

If you really want some 225/50 16 AVSi's, I have a pair sitting in my garage. They aren't new, but I imagine there is some life left in them. Couldn't bring myself to throw them out yet.

Naww, thanks for the offer though. I figure if your going to go throught the work of mounting/balancing/alignment you might as well put on know tire.
Speaking of alignments
anyone know a good place in atlanta? For the Thread looking for place in Atlanta click here.
