Default Coolant hoses

I have a 1989 S2 with 125,000 miles. The car is in good mechanical shape, with all the recommended things done, but I am wondering about the coolant hoses. Anyone know how long these hoses will go before needing replacement? They look OK and are not hard, but I am a little worried. Need I be?

not realy. You want to be sure: then drain system, remove hose and look for cracks on the inside. (they will develope after a failure of the cylinder head gasket. (If you had not that than dont worry)

27 year old hoses? Yeah I'd be worried. Unless you only take short trips from home and are within AAA towing range.

What is the best place to order set of hoses? I'd need a turbo set also. Is there any reason to buy silicon instead of porsche OE?

only if you want shiny hoses or "bling colors".

silicone is stiffer and harder to work with/bend if needed than rubber...

All the rubber under pressure starts to go at the age of our cars. I just picked up an entire set of coolant hoses to keep on hand for peace of mind. Lart's used to offer the set but I just checked and didn't see it. 944online does have the hose sets listed. And as mentioned above, having AAA is a good idea.

rosepassion.com in France has everything for us Europeans.
I went with the LR silicone and most of them did not fit well or at all. It's also much thicker (fitment issues) and is more rigid (will more likely leak due to not conforming to the hard pipes that well), so you may want to bear that in mind.

I've got a sad story of a failing heater hose that lead to a new motor... My hoses also looked great...

I have the LR silicone for 4 years now and I love them. Can't remember off hand how many layers(possibly 6) but I found it was great added protection when it came to rubbing issues that you don't catch early enough. A heck of a lot of wear has to take place before failure. Just my 2 cents.

Ditto! Lindsey Racing hoses, I've had a set for 4 years now and no issues.. I need to order another set for the race car but have been on B/O, But Dave said they will be in this week. They have black if you dont want the Bling. Cheap insurance to do them all, they even came with optional clamps as well, which I would recommend, old clamps tend to get bad spots in them.
