I had a 1996 blazer that would eat rear axle seals. I ended up selling it to two older Russian women. What were we talking about again?

A automobile that its engine doesn't clunk when turning over.
You do know this is a Porsche forum?
Anyhow, did you try turning the engine over with a breaker bar? The rings may be stuck from years of sitting. If it is stuck, pull the spark plugs and shoot Marvel Mystery oil into the cylinders. Let it sit a few days and try again to turn over with a breaker bar.

Maybe he misread Odurdina's posts about SBC swaps and accidentally put a 944 engine in his chevy.

It turns over, does it start?
Is the clunking while the starter is turning, after the engine starts, as soon as you turn the key..?

Check to see if your starter is loose. I had the same problem when a starter bolt broke. Yes, it was a Chevy

if it hasn't run in a while i wonder if a connecting rod is "loose" without any oil underneath the bearing.
that could make a clunk. but spinning it over with the starter enough should make oil pressure on your V6.

Torque converter bolts tight? They may be hitting the back of the block.
Did you try cranking without the serpentine belt? Could be a locked Alternator.
Do you know why it's been off the road?
