Timing tool set on Ebay
I know ArnnWorx tools are great and the way to go. And i'll probably end up with them. But my question is simple. On this eBay listing, do you think this pin wrench would work for the tensioner as well? Or are the two pretty different. I have an 83 944.

Is the tensioner on an 83 944 different in any way from the later models? And do i need a pin wrench for it to relieve tension?
I'll be diving into my first timing/water pump replacement. Just ordered the complete kit from ECS on sale. Pretty excited since I'm positive my balance shafts are not aligned properly causing a lot of driveline vibration at about 3k rpm.
Thanks!

hi
the balance shaft spanner wrench works for the 87-up 944 spring tensioner.
the 82-86 tensioner requires a 27mm thin-head wrench.
kind of late now but FCP Euro has way better pricing for the belt kit than ECS usually.

Hey you're right their normal pricing is cheaper. Thankfully my sale price brought it down to within $10 of it. But good to know!
Ok so to clarify, no pin wrench need for an 83 tensioner? The tensioner uses that 27mm flat wrench? I've never heard that before.. if that's the case then this eBay kit should be alright.

I should clarify for posterity's sake...
The big "pin spanner wrench" is for holding the BALANCE SHAFT sprockets still, on all 944/944T/944S/944S2 cars 1982-1991.
It also works for the 1987-1991 944 "spring style" TIMING BELT tensioner.
The 1982-1986 944/944T TIMING BELT tensioner needs a 27mm thin-head "low profile" wrench to hold the tensioner still while you torque the nut down to lock it in place. The wrench pictured in your ebay link is correct.
The 27mm wrench also is used to position/set the BALANCE SHAFT tensioner and BALANCE SHAFT idler.
So no matter what year 944 you have, you need both the pin wrench and the thin 27mm wrench.

Ok perfect. Lol sorry i just want to be absolutely sure I'm getting the right tools. Huge help, thank you
So for early guys, this eBay kit is possibly a steal. I'll let you all know if they're any good.

Hey guys, just wanted to update this for anyone looking to DIY their timing belt/water pump. The tools from this ebay seller worked great! Pin spanner fit the BS pulleys, flywheel lock... locked the flywheel. and the thin wrench, well that's pretty hard to screw up. If you have an early 944 with the eccentric tensioner roller, these tools will get the job done, and save you some money.
