951 weird option/Interior codes...
So I'm looking at an 86 951. The color was easy:
LY7Y - Zermatt Silver Metallic
However the interior code is LR. I can't find even a whiff of a mention anywhere on the Googles. Anyone seen this or have an idea? Looks tan. Not LQ tan, but real tan.
Here's the Options codes:
I39 ????????????
I89 ????????????
018 Sport steering wheel with elevated hub
220 Locking differential
474 Sport shock absorbers (Bilsteins)
533 Alarm system
650 Sunroof
983 Leather seats front and rear
C02 Equipped with catalytic converter
anyone seen the I39 and I89? I've seen a number of stickers with "I" codes on them in my searches. Not these, but others. None of which are on any code page I could find. Ideas? Anyone know anything about these "I" codes?
Thanks!

I wrote an article here about an '86 I code optioned normally aspirated I found and purchased. It is under the heading: " Documenting a 28,000 mile Sport Touring Group ...... " I began the thread about the middle of last summer and supplied photos of the white car with white matching FUCHS wheels, maroon leather sport seats and the sport touring group option. Google it on this site and read the story. I had a fun time working on it preparing it for the big local Porsche car show, but was unable to attend. I am planning to pick up where I left off this spring when the weather gets nice and I can begin detailing and documenting with photos.
These are quite rarely seen. Perhaps others will acknowledge what they know about them, but I have never seen another. Please post some photos of your car as well and let's keep in touch on our cars as they have to be some of the most rarely optioned '86 option groups out there.
Congratulations on your purchase ! Thanks for sharing ~

Just bumped the thread from the past, on my 'I' optioned 944, to the top. It should appear pretty close to this one in proximity..... enjoy the thread.

MGJ, long time no talk! Haven't bought it yet, but I'm about 90% sure it's going to happen here shortly. But thanks for the early Congratulations!
If you don't know, with your stable of 944's, then it must be pretty rare knowledge!
This one DOESN'T have the air compressor, I know you'll find that interesting. It does have the jack, tire, and all other assorted from the factory stuff. Unfortunately, the original owner died and after 2 years the window sold it to the current owner. However no one knew where the compressor or history went. That's the bad news...
Good news, the current owner realizes those are big issues for enthusiast and is willing to account for it in the price! That means A) I can afford it B) I can DRIVE it and not worry I'm going to ruin my 20k+ 951...!
This is going to be a semi-driver. 25 highway Miles to work 3-4 days a week, and PCA event/car show car..... That I don't have to sweat parking in parking lots and fear shopping carts!

Yes, good to speak again !
Just go directly to my comment # 30 on that thread and you will see the post about the "I 82" bundling code group Porsche used to gather options together for marketing purposes. Combining either special options hard to market because of costs to the retail consumer, OR they used them to pack the pricing and move somewhat desirable groups into packages to better amplify a desirable 'niche' sports car.
End result: it's all about profits and margins for the company. But, it also meant there were some very special cars built for us !

A little teaser:
Yes, seat covers. The stocks were showing a bit of wear, so he did this to protect them. He's got the stock wheel, that I'll of course be getting. He liked the mono, I like stock.
I'm really digging this car, the color with the Fuchs and interior is sharp!
I'm not a fan of white gauges, but that's easily fixed.

Looks like an a/m dash cap. Looks like a vinyl ( by the slight discoloring on the tan top of the lower dash ) assembly. Have you looked under the seat covers ? Are the backs and sides leather or vinyl ?
You have side trim which could be grouped in that dual I option code, as well as sunroof and rear wiper, and headlight washers.
Nice looking car ! Those should be the special, 1 year only 951 FUCHS wheels. Check for date codes on the inside of the wheel's petals on the back to verify. Don't let them get away from this car if they are matching date coded wheels; this is getting more and more important with every passing day, regarding originality.

I'm going to have to buy this one long distance, I'm looking for a rennlister local to the car now to check it out for me. I trust the seller, but a 2nd opinion is always good!
I caught the dash cap, but I think you may be one of the few people lucky enough to have some of these with original un-cracked dashes. I've personally never seen one without cracks!!! (shows aside) Taken into account on price...
I'm going to have him take pics of the seats with the covers off. But he told me they are not ripped or tore up, just starting to wear, so he covered them.
The belts were done about 7 months ago, AC compressor was replaced and converted to 134A a few years ago. New clutch, new brakes, new CV axles, new shocks, injectors done, new plugs, wires and rotors. New hatch seals, and hood/hatch struts all around. Lindsay front and rear sway bars. (not sure if the MO30 or other, will find out) New motor mounts (after market, so iffy) New tires. By new I mean all less than 4 years old and less than 5k miles.
Always garaged, by original owner and current owner. Small dent under one of the rear tail lights. He's going to get me a close up of it tomorrow. Other than that normal 30 year old nicks and dings. Just normal wear and tear. He's going to write me up a full list, and he's got all the receipts.
That's about all I know now. Guy bought a Vett and needs the Porsche gone, too many cars, not enough room. All of us around here know that struggle. This will be my 2nd 944, and my 4th current car. In a one driver household!!! LOL

That info came from the option code database where you enter all your codes and it returns the results.
The other lists just state "Sport Shock absorbers"

As far as I know, with the exception of the Bilstein Escort Cup dampers that were part of the M637 clubsport suspension option fitted to the M754 Turbo Cup and S2 Firehawk cars, the 944/968 was never fitted with Bilstein dampers from the factory.
Standard OE dampers were from Boge, Sachs, and I believe Koni, and sport dampers were from Koni.

Allen:
Correct. The Bilsteins were a 914, 912, 911 option, not available as far as I know as part of the factory water-cooler family of the '70s, '80s, '90s.
I believe a/m purchases were made available tho .....
