Default It's time for the next step!

So, I've decided to give my 87 to my 16 year old son. It's still not back together yet, but I plan on having it done around his birthday this summer. But that frees up a space in the garage...so.... it's time to run down a 951!

And of COURSE there is NOTHING, zip, zilch, nada, for sale here in the midwest. (Arkansas) And I've looked here and out to about 300-400 miles.... nothing really to choose from. What I've seen would throw me way over budget having it shipped, and man, it would leave me either flying out or buying blind. Ugh!

So I'm in search of any leads, good places to look, etc. There isn't much here on rennlist atm either. I would much rather buy from someone here. Let me know of any ideas, leads.

Thanks guys.

Street legal for comfort? Or extra sporty? If extra sporty you might look to a racing 951 in the racing circles - with performance bits already taken car of... but then you'd have a roll cage to contend with.

Craigslist is actually a decent place to find 944s, believe it or not. Look in major metro areas and see what turns up, but of course be wary of the people you deal with since it is, after all, Craigslist.

But here's a nice looking Turbo in a great rare color in Chicago, as an example: https://chicago.craigslist.org/sox/ctd/6045381170.html

I think you should try to search online for the different dealers. Consider different Porsche options here too, https://dsrleasing.com/car-listings?make=porsche.

Unlike you Noah, I can't rebuild a 924 in 2 months from the ground up! Lol. Honestly I'm looking for something pretty stock. I'm shooting to keep it as reliable as a 951 can get. Very mild mods. I've already tore one 944 down to the ground, don't want to do it again for a few years.

I'm on my phone, so it won't let me multi quote, but I have a email off to the 88 in Chicago. I really dig that color. I found it last night before I posted. Anyone know that car? I'd like to know some history.

In just the last year the prices have jumped so much, I want to pick up something while I can still afford it. But I'm in no super hurry either. I've got money set aside for the right one. It's not really a matter of if, just when.

I've talked to Jason an Manic in the past, but he seems.... Busy... I'd love to have one of his, but I think he may have more business than he has hands and cars for. Nothing against Jason! He just seems really snowed under. He's a great guy and an asset to the community!

I'll check out that other site a little later. I'm just fishing for any ideas you guys may have! I mean, this IS the Porsche center of the web!!

I don't know it, just came across it when doing my regular Craigslist sweep for 944s and 944 parts in my corner of the country. If it's as nice as it looks in the photos, though, that seems like a really nice price. My first '44 was Garnet Red like that one too, it's a really sharp looking color.

Sold, they just wrote me back awhile ago. But thanks!

I do have a line on one in Alabama. Going to chase that down and see where it goes.

It depends. I'd love to stay around 7k ish, just because I have that easily on hand. However I have several options to go as high as 10k. I'm not wanting to spend over that. I do feel there are many out there, in amazing condition or very rare, that are worth more than 10k, but just not to me! This price balloon they are riding right now is hampering my prospects, I guess I'm just stuck on the old prices. I don't want a total piece of crap, I've got one of those lol. But I don't need a show car either. I'm gonna drive this one. I want a "nice" one.

So yeah, 7-10k is what I'm looking at.

So, I think I found my 951. 86 Zermatt Silver Metallic. I'm about 90% sure this is going to happen. I'll post up more once it's a done deal.

Isn't anyone concerned about a 16 year old behind the wheel of a 944?

Why? My 16 year old drives a '86 944 NA.

A NA? Civics make me eat their dust in the NA! I think it's just about perfect for a 16 year old to learn in.

If you mean in case he crashes it, yeah, there is that. But this is just a solid fair condition car. Money and loss to the 944 community wise, negligible. If I had one of MGJs 944s I wouldn't let a 16 year old within 2 blocks of it.

Now turbos..... Maybe not so good for a 16 year old.. .

Why? Most family cars are faster these days. At 16 my Dad (bless him) turned me loose with a 396 Chevy and a 4 speed. It had way more tire smoking horsepower than I had IQ

It's not the power, it's the badge on the hood. He'll be infinitely more likely to tempt fate with the 944 than he would a Chevy Malibu with much more power. I've seen it too many times. Of course all parents think their kid's an angel, but that is seldom the case.
