There's nothing sexier than a zero mile engine. Or should I say kilometer?

On the first minute of that video it looks like the guy in front is putting the final torque on the cylinder head, the guy behind him is loosely attaching the intake and exhaust cylinder head nuts and bolts and the guy behind him is putting the second torque on the cylinder head, and so on. I wonder what the factory did with all those engine mounts, like to get my hands on one.

I didn't take this video, it was taken on April 11 1986 which was my (26) birthday and the date I took delivery of my first 944. All mine are MY86 so this video is a bit special to me.

Awesome vid! I could tell it was late '86 due to the 32v 928 engines and 4-piston calipers. I was still a baby then.

I always wondered what initial assembly looked like.

Great video, thanks. I was on factory tour of Stuttgart factory few months ago and it didn't changed all that much, still hand work. The only robot they have on assembly line is for gluing windshield and back glaass for targa models.

Other things are all assembled by hands.

For comparison this is how porsche factory (Stuttgart) operates now.

Ya, I have looked at parts and thought about the person who installed them. I always imagined a stocky, ubermensch type of guy, but they look like normal dudes. I hoped for a big guy, because that would mean I had some hope of removing that impossible to reach bolt with my average size hands. But now I see they were average size as well, so I remain baffled by some bolts. Next time I'm stuck, I'll try overalls.

Seeing this video is awesome, but of course it leaves us thirsty for more, like engine casting/machining, and car assembly. Today we're spoiled with shows like How It's Made.
