Default 914 Monster In The Making

I know it's been done before, but figured you guys would like to see some pics I took of my neighbor's "little project". He's stuffing a 3.6L Carrera engine into his 914. He's quite the expert, fabricating his own parts and whatnot. Enjoy.

sweet! gives me inspiration for my 914 project car. I think I may try and find a cheap 928 engine and shove it in.

Boy, talk about a shoe horn job! That fan does not have a lot of intake clearance.

So he is attacking this project because it is more fun than just buying a 914-6?

A 914-6 has an anemic 2.4L flat 6...

A far cry from the 3.6L 993 motor that guy is putting in...

But if he bought the 914-6, then installed a 3.6........................

Kinda like installing a turbo on a 944na, when you get soooo much more with a 951.

That is gonna be a helluva ride. I always liked the thought of a 993 engine in an early 911. That power in a 914 will be sick.

I see your point, Bill. was that in fact a 6er? if so, I would have left it alone. If it was something like the 1.7L I have, I say go for it!

Does it really matter all that much if you're buying a 944 n/a to throw a 400RWHP engine in it? The 951 suspension goodies aren't good enough, so they're gonna get thrown out anyway....

Same goes for the 914-6 vs 914-4 IMO....

Guys, it is a 914-6. He rebuilt the original engine and acquired the 3.6 years later. Clearance is tight, but it's amazing just how much room is back there. I'll never complain about doing a tune-up on our cars ever again. That engine has twin distributors and 12 plugs. Access looks very difficult with it in the car, then again when you can drop the engine in about an hour and change by yourself....

True, if someones building up a car like that, they would probably ditch the stock suspension and upgrade.
