I have seen both cars AG951 has talked about
The 911 with a 964 motor is a 80 911 SC.
Both cars came were built in california and the current owerns purchased their cars with the 3.6L conversions completed.
The 911 is fairly stock. Stiffer suspension, but stock brakes and wheels. The 914 has big reds.
The 911 driver is quite good and can get alot from his car. The 914 driver just got his car late this summer and is still learning to drive it. He came from a 914 1.8.
Cars can have potential to be fast, but it takes a good driver to get that potential out. Right now the 911 is faster on the track.
the 914 was faster in the last AX however.
Then again both were solidly beaten by 944-spec car!

Adrial,
I disagree. It goes way deeper than just suspension.
I dont know a lot about 914's vs 914-6. But to hang a turbo on a 944na vs starting with a 951(that was designed front to back for the turbo) is by far the simpler project.
Lets take the example of the turbo water pump:
Turbo water pump
Turbo water pump plumbing
Turbo water pump wiring
Turbo water pump sensor
Turbo water pump timer
Turbo water pump mounting brackets
Drilled and tapped locations in manifolds for TWP sensors and piping
All of these items would have to be retrofitted on the NA and would allready be there on the 951. Think of the effort and cost to hunt down all of these items and then integrate them into the NA. I would venture to say that the turbo water pump would not get installed on the NA. And there is soooo much more. Heavier spindles, stiffer chassie, torque tube, cv joints, engine controls, engine control wiring, wiring harnesses, gauges, intercooler, transmision, mounting brackets......all items that simply come with a 951.
I read way too often on this board about guys modifying without thought to engineering. Just hanging parts onto their car. Only to later post their "horror story" and how much they are now frustrated that their cars have "problems" or are no longer reliable.
More power to this guy for his ability and fortitude. There are some that can take a sheet of aluminum and some spare parts, and turn them into a 917. It allways excites me to see these types of amazing projects, but I would take the short road. And as oi confirms, this guy did also.
