I made here and on the B-Pillar and on the sills also, an overlap joint by means of my edge setter. It took some time and a lot of trying until everything matched as it should. Finally I managed it, that the entire panel could slide into the correct position and kept there without tension.
As soon as the tin joints fit perfectly, I did all across the panel some point welding to stitch it together without tension.
Apart from that, the welding around the taillight was pretty complex too.
How do you think it was done at the factory? Quarter went on first and tail panel applied after? My Tail panel will have to be replaced as well.

I have spoken with Gene.

Thanks

That's a good question, honestly when I fixed my quarter, I tried to guess how it was done at the factory. My solution was as well, that the quarter went on first then the tail.
Here is a link, where you can download the factory "how-to" do body work on 944/968. How-to replace side panel and rear end panel is included
This was my literature on which my work based (it's no rocket science, but much work).

There was someone on here 3 years ago that was hit on the track and fixed theirs. I remember a profile pic with their face... I know not much help.

I thought the 944 manuals covered body panel replacement? Are you planning to do it yourself? I would think any body shop worth its salt for older porsches knows where to cut.

Probably my link to the "how-to" body panel replacement of the factory manual (extract) was too hidden in my posting #19.
