Its stamped on them, lots of OE seals are VR including headgasket.
Even BMW's OE headgaskets and much of other seals are made by VR.
Problem as somebody stated is that one VR headgasket design for BMW (M50 I think) was bad and religiously leaked and thus damaged VR's reputation in BMW 'performance' waters.

There's a slight design defect with VR headgasket for 944. The corner bolt at the front water passage between head & block has the seal wrap around the outside of the bolt instead of inside. This doesn't protect the bolt from coolant and it can get seized up in the block. Be sure to add a thin circle of silicone on the top & bottom of the gasket around that bolt hole.
