'80 924 + M44/40
Hello Porsche enthusiasts,
I have a complete set of '87 944S engine M44/40, transmission, suspension in my garage for a while and considering to install it into lightweight stripped 924 body.
The question is: do I need to source
a) 924S 2.5 or 931 body
or b) M44/40 engine will fit any 924 body with ease?
I was browsing forums and catalogs for couple of days and didn't find clear answer for it.
I'm looking for a simple solution and not very keen in manufacturing custom engine suspension, since this project suppose to be fun on the track, not headache in a garage.
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Tomas G.

Thanks V2Rocket. I got the full wiring (basically I have whole car except body. Body was a used for a Turbo project). The problem with 924S body is that there's no such near my location.

Where are you located? There's a 931 in a junkyard near me. It's an '81 so it has the mounting provisions for the Audi transaxle. The nose panel, hood, and the other sellable 931 parts are already gone (most to my garage )

For a 944 engine into a non-S 924, I don't know for certain but I would guess that you'd need an aftermarket solution.

On an early 2.0L chassis, you need to cut out the rear engine hanging brackets and then fab brackets onto the early steel cross member. If it's a 931, the only other major hurdle will be wiring. If it's a 924 NA, you'll need to convert the whole thing over to hydraulic clutch. For doing so, I would recommend installing one of these to strengthen the firewall, and to provide a template for where the master clutch cylinder needs to go.
